Download the Entire Village Section on Christmas Day!

We’re happy to share that we are releasing the entire set of Village environmental textures on Christmas day! Anyone who has donated in the past (or who donates by 12/18/2014) will be able to download it early (about a week early).

Take a look at our new trailer for this release! (Note: If you’re using the Chrome browser, you may need to turn off the option for using hardware acceleration in the browser settings).

FAQ for the Village Release

What is included? All of the environmental textures for the Village portion of the game.

What is not included? You may notice certain textures have not yet been updated, such as certain animals, some traps, enemy textures, etc. The reason for this is primarily due to the way the files are organized in this release of the game.

So sweet! I sadly haven’t donated, but only because of technical reasons. I don’t have a card to make online purchases with. I’m glad i’ve at least helped with finding at least 3 original assets. (carpet + 2 tombstones). :^)

Also, nitpicking, I noticed the plates in the Mendez house weren’t that that faithful…

    • Cris says:

Thanks! I hope eventually you get to purchase the game on Steam and play with the updated textures!

Re: the plate – I agree that mainly the coloring and contrast are a bit off. I’ve adjusted it to match the original more. I’m happy with the design itself on the plate, though. 🙂

Is it just me but does anyone else find the original chair textures better? Everything else looks amazing. I am glad to donate but Paypal still won’t let me… sigh.

  4. Tony B says:

Look at 0:54 of video. They kinda pop out more, seem more 3D like they have bump mapping or something. The new chair designs seem to be more bland.

    • Cris says:

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, there may be an opportunity to adjust the contrast and levels of the image a bit to achieve a more 3D appearance.

  5. Tony B says:

Also are the characters, enemies and guns still getting a retexture?

  6. Lukas says:

If there is one single place in the game that needs to be remodeled, it’s the closet with skulls and maggots in the first ganado’s house. It looks so bad, much more low-poly than other parts of the game. Please remodel that part, it really does fit your criteria for model rework, because it’s extremely low-poly. Thanks. 🙂

    • albert says:

I frankly don’t see differences between this models and most models of the game. It looks ugly but all those worm sprites here and there doesn’t help at all. And the skull model is the same all over the game.

      Mini survey:
Do someone else thik remodeling that corner is really needed? Do you guys think it looks worse than other things in the game? (Remember the worms can’t be repositioned)

Thank you again Lukas! let’s see what other people has to say about this models 😉

      • Pedro says:

I think that part is low poly, but it’s only there, and the bear traps are equaly low poly and are in lots of places, and would be nice to see bump map and specular map on the iron bear traps.

        • Lukas says:

I think it might look particularly bad just because it’s in close up, and the other skulls are seen from distance. But to me, this is kind of a distractingly ugly scene. But still, it might be just me.

          • KALUDIO says:

well lets wait till all the environment textures are done before we start with the 3d models. plus you don’t have to see the cut scene if you don’t press the action button. but i do think remodeling the skull 3d model could be beneficial since it can be reused to revamp the other ones scattered through out the game. i don’t know how much effort it would take, and i don’t know if it’s worth it.

      • Chlotin says:

In my opinion, this would go out of the project’s original intention.
It is completely OK if you edit the model to correct the UV mapping and ugly deformations.. But editing for the sake of just adding more polygons? Almost every model could use some edit by using this logic.
My point is – If this is a project about enhancing textures, it’s better to stick with only textures instead of nitpicking one model which doesn’t have technical problems at all.

        • Pedro says:

The point is that if some other project change the 3D models, it can not use the same uv mapping and probably would not use the same textures. If they use a better 3D model with the new textures, they work would be easier in points that have bad uv mapping and would help in detail.

is there a way to fix this —> http://imgur.com/5m6wkWj

    • Tony B says:

I have the same exact problem. Can’t donate, wont let me.

      • albert says:

Cris is out today (Cris is the one in charge of these things) but I googled the issus and I found this:

        http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/298152-solved-problem-with-the-paypal-email-address-supplied-by-the-seller/

«I figured it out. In the PP module config, down in the API settings box where it asks for PayPal Business Account: it needs to be the verified email address in your account, not your business name. Maybe this could be updated to say email so others don’t get confused, or maybe it was just me!»

I have no idea if this has something to do with your issue. Surely not… -.-‘
I Hope Cris can find a solution.
        Thank you!!

        • Cris says:

Hi everyone. I’m sorry for the inconvenience – I think I may have figured out the issue (I updated the account preferences to allow receipt of donations from unconfirmed addresses, which seems to be at least part of the error message). Tony B, kaludio – If you would be kind enough to try one more time and let us know if the issue remains?

  8. Pedro says:

How many GB has this update? And there will be any of the new castle textures?

    And amazing work.

  9. Re6joke says:

Ouch the music of video is really bad.

Is one of your musical composition?

  10. Handerson says:

Everything is really really great and well made, please keep the good work and finish the whole game <3

  11. KALUDIO says:

how is it going to release tomorrow, is it going to be like the last time?

  12. Re6joke says:

Sorry im pretty picky with music i hope i was not annoying.

  13. kaludio says:

well is the 18, how do I download it? should i check the my email or something?

    • Cris says:

Hi Kaludio! If you donated, then you would have received an email earlier today with instructions. Everyone else will receive access on December 25. If you donated, but did not receive an email, please email me: cris @ re4hd . com and we can figure it out. Thanks!

  14. Luke Johnson says:

Wow! Thank you for sticking with this. Thank you so much!

  15. Geoffrey says:

Waiting until the final release before I use it. Will donate some more money soon.

  16. KALUDIO says:

now that the update is out (for the most part) you should make a community contest aimed to choose the screenshots or photos that best portrait the project’s goals and advances… or something like that, and the winners could be featured on the website as an update.

    • albert says:

Thank you Lukas. I already found the original painting for room 20c a few years ago hehe
I skipped that painting in my last video by accident (you can barely see it in minute 1:28) but … we are not suposed to show everything because the surprise factor would disappear ;P
      Merry Christmas!

“Original audio had to be retired due to copyright claim”

good, that one is much better !!
