Need a ride, handsome? (r22a-22c)

Hello!

This week I’m showing you the last 2 rooms of the Castle: 22a and 22c (“Escaping the tower” and the “Target practice Mini game” areas)

I’ve done lots of small 3D adjustments. Like that ornamented cabinet next to the clock… the 3D model was flipped! The hole you can see in the HD textures picture was facing the wall and the flat side you can see in the Original textures picture was supposed to be hidden! So, I just turned the furniture 180ΒΊ and… tada!

Also, you can see that grayish band in the floor next to the turquoise doors. It’s suposed to be aligned to the bands of the door frames, not 50 cm away…

And that black portion of the ceiling: By welding its vertices with the vertices of the wall we obtain softer shadows and avoided crushed blacks.

Something similar happened in the corridor leading to Ada: The ceiling was on a separate 3D file. I simply merged that ceiling with the model containing the walls and magically the light now affects the ceiling and the walls the same way. Before that, the fire didn’t light up the ceiling texture!

Then we have that “15 years later” wall texture… For now, I decided to leave that texture as is. I think that knowing that it’s the same wall (even if it has had some alterations in real life) is an “added value”. Of course this is all a work in progress. So, we can change our minds and you can express your thoughts about it. πŸ˜‰

There were also lots of mapping issues and touch-ups here and there.

Finally… I’m leaving the castle area! Well not quite… Before starting the Island  I’ll go back and revise more 3D models from previous castle rooms. We didn’t have the needed skills and knowledge to edit some of them properly when we started the castle area. Anyway, I think it won’t take too much time!

And when all the Island rooms are finished, we’ll go back and revise additional 3D models from Village area, too πŸ˜‰

All the walls are incredibly well done. Awesome job as always!! Can’t wait to play it!

Once I get a job again I will be donating! Keep up the good work.

Hey Albert, fantastic job as always.
I don’t want to come out as picky, but as an architecture student, the ceiling texture in image #15 looks a bit off, almost as if it is a wall texture.
I’m no expert, but I find very difficult for a flat ceiling to have bricks with that placement (bricks of that type are normally used only on curved ceilings, not on flat ones).
Honestly, I would replace it with a texture of worn plaster or mortar.
    Keep up the amazing work!

      Thanks for the observation! πŸ™‚
In fact, i changed the ceiling texture in 8th picture for the same reason! haha
The problem here is that this game is full of unrealistic use of material everywhere… but I changed the tiled ceiling not only for the use of tiles, but because the new HD texture has really noticeable debris on it! XD

I’d like to make the game as perfect as possible, believe me, but I’m afraifd we have to stop at some point in order to not falling into a neverending spiral of perfectionism.
I’m saying this because the lab areas are full of control panels and machinery we don’t understand and surely we’ll make some unrealistic use of materials, control panels, electric devices, etc…

But if there are more people thinking that something is a really glaring mistake, then we’ll change it for sure!

Oh well… At the end… I changed it XD
But you’ll have to wait for the final release to see it πŸ˜›

I really appreciate the way you and Cris handle user feedback :).
I’m sure that everyone who comments on the blog does suggestions only for constructive criticism and does not expect you to change/redo work you have already done.

You are already doin much more than you should by fixing 3d models and UVs, so I can’t thank you enough! πŸ˜€

  4. Lucas says:

excelent job! so there would be a “Castle Section” download? or we’ll have to wait until you guys finish with the island?

    • Cris says:

Thank you! πŸ™‚ We haven’t made a decision about whether there will be another release, especially because there is still a fair amount of refinement that remains to be done on the Castle section.

  5. Phelaidar says:

    Fantastic Job as always.
Bought the second RE4 port when it launched but I’m waiting for this incredible pack before playing.

With all these 3d edits, i’m kind of curious if you guys are planning on adding real handles on doors (it’s something that bothers me, that some are modeled, others are just part of the texture in the original).

    Really great work again!

    • Cris says:

Thank you very much! In response to your question, yes, this is something we are considering on a case by case basis. πŸ™‚ Thanks again!

  6. Erik says:

I’ve donated twice and I will be doing it for the 3rd time I’m sure. The work you guys do is simply amazing! Keep up the good work! πŸ™‚

  7. Terminento says:

    LOL, Xunta de Galicia!
Now the last part of the game makes a lot more sense: Leon and Ada grabbed that boat to go eat some pulpo a la gallega, but they had to fight an army of percebeirros in the island on their way there.

  8. digitaltim says:

Thanks for making a great game better…
    Donated.

  9. Jodeth says:

Amazing! Your work shows the half-assed effort of whoever textured the original. Pfff, “half-assed” barely describes it. More like “1/10th-assed” haha! Still I’ve yet to donate. F@&k being poor, right?!

  10. Enzo says:

You are doing some amazing work. Playing that initial release makes the game feel brand new! Incredible job.

  11. Javi says:

When will we can play this amazing mod? It looks so great!
