I can hear Ashley yelling my name (what a surprise…)

Hola nois!

One more room ready to go! This room had plenty of very simple 3D elements that needed to be remodeled to avoid looking too plain. It still needs lots of 3D and texture refinements but I’m quite satisfied with the provisional results 🙂

About the noteboard: We’ll likely change some of the notes and pictures to avoid copyright infringements XD. And it seems that the picture of “Back to the future” I used (4:47 in the video) matches very well with the one in the original texture! Anyway, Capcom already used a picture of “Back to the Future 3” in Resident Evil 2 & 3… ¬¬

Once again I was able to some of the original textures Capcom used back in the day. (I was tired of not finding the original sources! The last 3 rooms were all re-creations…)

I believe that the food item in the bag is actually pretzels and not Cheerios.

  2. Marco says:

Ashley looks kinda hotter on that pic XD

    • albert says:

But everybody hate her anyway XD

      • Jeff R. says:

I actually like Ashley. She holds up well when you think about what she is going through and what she is asked to do without any experience or training. She hides behind Leon when she should, she ducks if she’s in the way, she helps in areas where Leon couldn’t do it alone, she picks up items for him, and she even asks if you want to have sex afterwards instead of just assuming you’d be down for it. I’d have accepted if I were Leon.

        • Sophia Sparks says:

Hey hey. It’s just about bad decisions Capcom have made. The character role and design in this, is their own damn fault. Ashley don’t exist by the way, which make the insults and zeal toward her, looking like some geamurs can’t separate reality VS. game. OK I get carried away…

I even wonder if RE4: UHD project, can edit her model to make her resembling… a human being maybe, like the others. For now, she looks like she have mensurations inconsistency with bizarre face proportions, leading people to ask themselves sometimes: Why she’s here?

She’s also have a comically big head if you measure Leon and others ones, leading to some actual clipping with her own hands when she bend down while you shoot or aim for example.

Maybe something should be made about that someday. It’s not a priority thought.

    Looks awesome as usual

  4. Sophia Sparks says:

Okay, since you already mentioned that you will do additional 3D edits, just two things (for now):

At 1:32 of the video: Sorry, but the bricks piles are awkward, they don’t looking like they even attached to something.

The door before the surveillance control console is just silly, and it was even before this project. It should be a handle instead of the kinda plastered lock and chains.

    There. Hope it will help.

      Hello Sophia,
      Thank you for your comments!

About editing character models: We won’t edit the design of the character’s. That would be a “sacrilege” considering we want to stick to the original as musch as we can.
We only edit those models we think are “broken” (mapping issues, extreme low poly objects, modeling issues, etc…)

And yes, those briks are one of those things we need to improve in the next revision stage 🙂 We take note of that!

And that door… well.. XD I thought about that too. But again… sticking to the original is a priority, and finding this kind of door here is not impossible. Everything look somewhat decayed. It’s not that strange finding one door with no doorknob and using some kind of provisional chain as a provisional replacement… I think it’s credible ^_^’

      • Sophia Sparks says:

Well, maybe you should make the chains and the lock be 3D, with that it should probably looks way less awkward. I just thought it was silly, to plaster them like a normal texture. Thanks for looking at the bricks one.

For Ashley? Well, from all the females present in the RE series, she’s the less well-thought of all. Even Sheva, that people don’t like because of her silly partner’s AI, liked her African design.

Ashley is like a mix between a redneck from the far southern corner of Mississippi and what should looks like the daughter of George W. Bush if he even had one. And her outfit looks juvenile. Oh well, it’s just a lookout on the thing.

        • albert says:

Haha yes, but that’s what I like about Ashley. It’s like all Capcom girls have the same face with different hair style. Ashley has some disproportions, like we all normal humans have… But she got those giant “ballistics” all Capcom girls have (again) anyway XD

I thought about making those chains 3D but then when Leon kicks the door the chains would remain static, so… We’ll think about that! 😉

  5. flamero54 says:

People should stop blaming Leon for rejecting Ashley because this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWBdUe18a0U XD

  6. adsfasfawef says:

You should mod her voice out.

  7. sergio avila (pepodmc) says:

    Excellent as always!! amazing XD

  8. Simon Belmont says:

Wow thank you so much for doing this. RE4 is my favorite game of all time. This is the Ultra Ultimate Hyper HD edition!!!! Your work on this project is blowing Capcom out of the water……..they need to hire someone like to when they release these so called “HD” re-releases.

  9. Kaludio says:

i have noticed that during cut scenes eyelashes have a weird white/transparent outline, the same happens with flat textures like grass and the hay on the village or alike. do you guys know why it happens? also can it be fixed? by the way the mobile version of the site is awesome! i didn’t notice it until today xD, the new 3d edits are superb! i can’t wait for the castle demo/download!

    • albert says:

Haha I think I know what you mean. This is something I’ve been working on the last week XD. It’s quite complex to explain but in brief: It’s related to the order the models with alpha channel are loaded on scene.
We can control that order for some of the environmental instances of that problem (I’d say most) therefore fix that issue. But I’d say we can’t do anything about the characters and enemies (for now).

  10. kaludio says:

also lots of animations run 2X speed, like when objects fall, when lights flickering, or even the lighting on the cementery at night just to name a few. is there a fix for that, i heard someone was working on a fix for that back before the final oficial updat? also the sniper reloading animation runs at what looks like 30fps. is there a way you guys could incorporate a fix on the final realses?

    • Cris says:

Right now I do not believe there’s a fix for either of those issues, unfortunately. Of course, at the beginning of the project we did not know if 3D edits would be possible either, so perhaps there is some hope. The sniper rifle reloading animation in particular would be awesome to have at 60FPS. 🙂 I *love* that animation — it’s so satisfying.

  11. Parse says:

Is there bump map on textures? Or is it possible to add a normal map/parallax map to the engine?

    • albert says:

We are adding bump/specular maps here and there. Just for a few things. They doesn’t look that great in lots of places. It all depends of the light of the place and the geometry of the 3D mesh. It’s not possible adding normal or parallax maps in this game.
