A surprise behind the shutter! (room 305)

Hello people!

Today I’m showing you one more room from the Island section of the game. This one is quite small in size but big in difficulty (like the previous 2 rooms). Again there was a lot of work required for one-time-use textures, but the results deserve the work, I think!

This time I’ve tested a “new” type of specular effect on the last door (the one connecting with room 306). Actually, I used this effect previously in some of the ornate gilded giant torches in the Castle area, but the effect was really subtle. I think it looks quite good and natural over the door and I may use it in future 3D models (or previous). It combines both bump-mapping with a specular map. You can see it in motion if you take a look at the video!

And lots of 3D edits were needed as usual here and there (modeling and remapping).

As always, this is a work in progress.

As a side note: Maybe some of you have noticed I’m not doing the 3-room updates I used to do a few months ago. I’m not getting tired ;P The reason is that I’m combining the Island Area work with the remaining Village Area 3D edits. ðŸ™‚

Do you guys intend to re-texture the characters when you’re done with the environments?

Are there any challenges that would be difficult to contend with if you did so?

Love the work you guys come up with, thank you for keeping RE4 up to date 🙂

      Yes, we’ll retexture everything 😉

Are you planning to have some modelers to check out the 3D characters models bugs and… maybe undo what the PC have done to the main characters one too? Because, to be honest, a simple “re-paint” is not enough to hide how low-poly the PC models are…

As I hear, the GC and Wii versions got HD models for cut-scenes, and it don’t need massive work to perfectly rig them to the normal player animations. Some people already begin to rig them to the default models.

That, combined with your impressive mod, should make it even more refined and more akin of it’s original release!

But hey, it’s only a suggestion for making it more refined.

If you have any alternative, I be curious to hear it.

We are not yet certain if we can edit the character / enemy 3D models without any side effects. We will only touch those if we are 100% sure the edits are completely stable.
