Hello again! I’ve been able to post this while dealing with heat and humidity… I hate summer! haha
This update will cover both cave rooms 31a and 31b. And Saddler finally introduces us to “It!” (U-3)
This area uses lots of generic metal / stone textures, so the updates are pretty straightforward this time. I added some new 3D details here and there as usual, especially on the doors and control panels. I also tried to fix that terribly patterned stone wall you can see before fighting U-3.
Don’t hesitate posting your thoughts about the work in progress pictures and video! π

this rooms really benefit from the higher res textures. This week i was tinkering with re4hd mods and i realized that the game looks way more fluid without the film grain and the FOV rised to 70-65 regular 50-55 aiming, maybe those mods can help you guys take prettier footage for the videos and updates. I was also thinking that the 2d fences like the one in the 3rd images could use look better with that effect where you sandwich a black version of the texture with two regular textures. i forget what is called, but is used on the floor where you fight the 2 el gigantes and the lava. As always thanks for taking the time, also stay cool and hydrated xD
Unfortunatelly the grain film texture is used for other purposes in the game…
Those fences… Good idea! So it won’t look that flat when crossing the door. But I need to try if this looks good enough. And that made me think the floor fences in the U-3 battle area (6th picture) looks somewhat “weak”… I guess we’ll revise that texture to something more feasible! π
About the FOV, I know about it but… I never try it actually! But we usually take screenshots at very close range anyway.
Thank you!!
sorry i think i didn’t explain myself right, what i meant was to remove the grain filter for demonstration purposes only, since it adds unnecessary information into the frame, and that eats on the bit rate or image quality. This video i saw a while back illustrate my point more effectively —> https://youtu.be/r6Rp-uo6HmI?t=2m29s as always thanks for answering my questions
Impressive as always. Great work with the 3D edits in the tunnel! Looks way more natural.
I hate summer too… ^^
Unbelievable work albert
In video looks almost pre-rendered in some instances
It looks totally OUTSTANDING!!
Everytime I see your web for news, I’m eager to play RE4 again :v
Greetings and thanks for your hard work π
This is one of the best before/after photo comparisons you’ve posted yet. You guys are amazing, keep up the good work!
Good work guys!
Wait, I think I found a bug on the last pic! π
Just recently new to this and site and only recently downloaded the village pack. To say I am blown away is a huge understatement. RE4 is the best game I have ever played and the work you guys have done is amazing!!
Any idea on the release for the Castle Pack? I know you probably can’t answer that but figured I’d ask anyways π
Thank you!
Unfortunatelly we can’t say any date for future releases. We’ll decide about it when the castle area is finished. The reason is we are now 100% focused on making progress π
Totally understood and thank you again for your amazing work! Something of this quality is worth the wait π
Do the water textures only apply here or are they consistent throughout the entire game (e.g. Del Lago lake)?
Most rooms with water has its own set of water textures π So, the edits here doesn’t affect the rest of the game
since were’re talking about water, how did capcom pulled off Leon’s reflection in the cut-scene were “it” come storming out of the wall? it really scaled well on higher resolution unlike other reflection used through out the games from the gamecube era.
My guess is… Leon’s model is duplicated upside down. Maybe I’m wrong but it seems the easiest way of creating that reflection effect
I don’t with what i’m more surprised. If it’s the amazing work on the texture or how you manage to take those screenshots with a savage bloodlusting beast trying to rip your head off. lol
Man, if you have a time, can you answer me how games engine is running the game? Capcom said that RE4UHD will running in 1080p at 60fps. With all modifications, how is the game behavior? Thanks man. Awesome work.
Hello Rafael!
After all the texture improvements we didn’t notice any significant performance drops even at 60fps π
I must say I always play at 30fps anyway ;P
Maybe it’s me, but in the 3rd picture (31aC), I don’t see the door as a chain link gate (like the wall next to it). I see it more as a metal grating… something like these google image results I picked up:
http://14textures.com/metal-grate-texture/
http://14textures.com/metal-grated-window-texture/
No doubt the original one looks like a metal grating. But I think this is due to the original transparency texture. Here’s the original texture with no alpha channel applied:

I think it’s chain link. But I’m not 100% sure… What do you think?
Of course, there’s the chance of changing it when Cris reach this area π
Thank you for your feedback!
Ah, yeah I see. I suppose it could be chain link. Hard to say at that resolution… I have no idea lol.
Honestly, I think it is a metal grating as well.
However, I would also say that it’s not a big deal. π
Here are some reference pictures.

I’m not sure of the official name used for that material. I’ve always known it as “expanded steel mesh”. It is commonly used for security doors.
Thank you! Now I’m almost 100% sure it’s metal grate / expanded steel mesh as BG said
One more thing to update π
Looks like Re5
Thank you for your had work.
great work, i will love to replay the game with this textures, it improves the game a lot, saludos desde MΓ©xico π
