    • Derupter says:

Albert i have a patch to remove the film grain effect (the file 07000000.pack),but i see that you have modded that file with tha castle release. Can i change that file or i lost something? What changes has been made with that file?
Oh and thank you for your fantastic work

      • albert says:

        Hello!
That pack contains a very few improved textures (at the end of the project it will contain a loooot of improved textures) If you replace it you’ll loose upgraded item aura and improved specular/bump effect
The grain texture is also used for other effects during the game.
There is a better way of remove the grain effect: deactivate it
You can do it by yourself if you have some hexedit experience:
-You need to uncompress all rxxx.udas.lfs files first (the ones in stX folders, it’s not necessary for the ones we already uncompressed for this project. They are already uncompressed udas)
        -Search for “01 04 72 00 00 00 00 FD” in every single udas file and replace it to “00 00 00 00 00 00 00 FD”
        That’s it.
I can generate an optional no-grain udas pack when the entire project is complete. It’s really fast and simple. I also like the clean look of the “ungrained” experience XD

        • Boris says:

Hi Albert, I’m having a blast playing through the castle but unfortunately it seems as though my lava in Salazar’s underground volcano room is broken. It looks like this:
          https://imagebin.ca/v/3HWI0aFHHbXe

The lava outside that room under the wheel bridge you cross is fine. Anyone idea how I can fix this?

          • Cris says:

Hello! Could you elaborate on what you mean by broken? I ask because in the screenshot (at first glance) it looks as intended…

          • Boris says:

It looks much more odd in motion. Large dark splotches move like glitches across the lava and the lava itself is not bright and orange like it should be. I’ve compared it to Albert’s video showing off the same area.
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tzdr5v4en3I

I’ll try to upload a video but perhaps others will have the same problem as well. Or perhaps I’ll re-install the textures and see what happens.

          • albert says:

Aha! Now I’m seeing that… I thought it was already like this in the original! (those big dark spots).
Firts of all, you should set the brightness of the game to the MAX value (+50). In fact, this value is “0” and it’s how the game should be played to obtain “true” colour/contrast. Any other values under +50 turn the whites into grey
            About the lava:
If anyone is interested in technical details:
The lava is made of 2 layers: One is the obvious layer, the one everyone sees, the second is a darker layer that generate those explosive bubbles of lava and it’s under the first layer.
The “waviness” of that second layer is texture dependant. We recreated the lava textures and the waves now are more intense because of the new textures. This makes the second layer to reach and surpass slightly the first lava layer height.

I’ve just fixed that by tweaking the first lava layer height and I made it slightly more vibrant.

          • Cris says:

You’re right – I just loaded up the room and I see exactly what you’re referencing. We’ll take a look at it and see what the issue is! Thanks for letting us know!

          • Boris says:

Thanks. I don’t want to bombard you with issues since the texture pack is 99% perfection. But here are a couple more things I’ve noticed while playing:

            Oddly colored fire effects?
            https://imagebin.ca/v/3HWqx44IX7oZ
            Treasure chest lid open
            https://imagebin.ca/v/3HVPXJxrwCJS

I’ve also noticed that pools of water flicker glitchily sometimes in the castle water room and in the sewer leading to Verdugo.

        • Daniel says:

is it possible to see some comparison pics with grain and without grain ?

        • Derupter says:

Ok, i used quickBMS script to uncompress the udas.lfs in stx folders, then i modified every single udas like you said, some files didn’t have those exadecimal values like all in st7 folder but i think is normal that grain is not everywhere.I can’t unpack 2 files (r015.udas.lfs in st0 and r533.udas.lfs in st5)because i received an error from the script so i don’t know if those files have the grain values inside.I copied all the modded udas and removed all the old lfs with the same name.
What happen if i leave the compressed lfs,the game load those instead of not compressed ones?
Now i have the game without the grain effect, but the texture grain is present for other effects so thanks for the tips.
During installation i saw an error in the script, the file em11.xgs was not present in snd folder,so it wasn’t made the backup, but your modded version has been copied in snd correctly

          • albert says:

            Hi!
The game will load the lfs if both are inside the folder. So I suggest you to move them into some other folder. Here’s some additional info:
            st1= village
            st2= castle
            st3= island
            st4= mercenaries and assignment ada
            st5= separate ways
            There’s no need to edit st0, st6 and st7 πŸ™‚

About em11.xgs. You are right. There’s no original xgs file and it’s not needed. It was an accidental remain. So, you can ignore this error
Now the Garrador should scream when you hit his weak point in his back. The scream disappeared because of a bug of this port! This file should bring back that missing sound πŸ˜€

      • Rodrigo says:

I like the film grain, make the atmosphere more darker πŸ™‚

        • sean says:

please remove the film grain, whether it was intended or not doesnt matter, it looks awful in HD and should be optional like the gradients, the filters in re5 were cool cuz you could choose different ones, but the film grain just detracts from all your hardwork πŸ™‚

@rodgrigo – you can change the gradients or turn down the brightness for atmosphere or darkness, but the film gradient makes things blurry

          • albert says:

I like both options (with and without grain). So, I guess is a subjective perception. The problem is it looks too big in certain rooms but it can be edited to look smaller!
In fact, I did it in room 205 (sewers with Novistadors). Did somebody notice the grain is not huge in that room anymore? πŸ˜›

  17. Numity Monste says:

Frist thank you so much for your hard works!
But, I’m having a problem here, my system is windows 10 64bit, I’ve install Village without problem, but when I install Castle with cmd (run as administrator) and list to the bat file (install-castle-release.bat), than the cmd says: ‘install-castle-release.bat’ is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file. How can I fix this?
    Thank you!

    • Cris says:

Hello! The only way that error message would appear is if you mistyped the name of the file, or if the file is not there in that directory. Could you double check those things? I hope that helps!

  18. Joseph says:

Gentlemen, everything is looking fantastic. I was just wondering if you had any plans to update the enemy and animal textures in the game or will you leave that to other modders?

    • albert says:

      Thank you Joseph!
Yes, we’ll take care of everything else when the stage textures/models are finished πŸ™‚

      • Andy says:

Haha already they want more/> I hope you guys actually take breaks etc now and then! Fantastic work, thanks much

        • albert says:

XD No worries, we take as many mini-breaks as we need. Nothing will stop us! πŸ™‚

        • Joseph says:

You know, I didn’t even think about how rude that statement could be interpreted as, but it was just out of curiosity. We’re all rooting for this project to be completed and appreciate your time, effort and devotion to it!

  19. atrumruina says:

When running the .bat for the Castle section (I reinstalled the Village section today as well) I get a notice that some items couldn’t be found. It says “Now installing files to correct lighting and effects” then that the following files are missing:

    em11.xgs, em11.xwb, r212.xwb

Let me know if I can provide anything else to help. I haven’t gotten to the Castle section just yet to test if I see any noticeable effects.

Thanks very much for all your hard work!

    • Cris says:

Hello! Can you confirm whether the files you listed are in place in the BIO4/snd folder? Just to confirm whether our files were copied over? (r212.wxb would be in BIO4/snd/room/st2)

  20. Martin Sp. says:

Wow. I am totally impressed. You did a great job on the castle area and ofcourse on the village area!
    Thank you very much!

  21. Big Jim says:

    Guys. GUYS!!

This made my whole month, seriously. I’ve been waiting on this FOREVAH. You guys kick so much ass; keep doing what you’re doing!

  22. Γ¦clipse Β΅attaru says:

I just started the Dark Souls 3 DLC and bought NieR: Automata, but I might have to put all that on the backseat to try this out πŸ˜€

  23. metroidguy says:

Holy shit finally! Thanks guys! You guys are by far the best modders I’ve seen out there!

  24. Lucas says:

hi guys!! amazing work! thank you very much for all you guys do from one RE4 fan to another. Now putting aside all this i just realize of something that i never did before, in the Village before the first encounter with Alcalde Mendez i look up to the sky and notice a big and not so dark circle which i think that surround all that area, i’m not saying that is because of your texture pack but i mention this so if you know tell me what is that, just curious, here is a link to the screenshot i made.

    https://k61.kn3.net/8/7/0/6/D/6/84C.jpg

    • Andy says:

Could just be the original limitations of the now vintage 2005 Gamecube game that Capcom themselves did not bother to update properly showing one of its edges, looks like the polygonal mesh of the sky box to me. I did not see anything like that though in my new play through earlier today, what hardware are you running? could be a gpu issue.

      • Lucas says:

yeah that’s what i first thought, the “box” you mentioned as i’ve seen those edges in a lot of retro 3d games before, i don’t think is a matter of my PC because i can play the game at 60fps and 720p without frame drops or speed and all other settings in high. i just found that thing curious because as i said never notice it before, dunno if i can see it cause of the brightness because i’ve set it kind of high, ohh well.

    • albert says:

      Hello! And thank you!
Don’t worry, I have this in my pending list. I’m quite sure this is just a mapping issue in the sky dome mesh, so it should be easy to fix πŸ˜‰
      Greetings!

  25. mofailed says:

Nice mod guys ! It will be great to see what’s in the future for this project but in the mean time thanks again.

  26. Andy says:

Absolutely stellar work, thank you for revitalising one of the greatest games of all time, I take my hat off to you sirs.

  27. Ben says:

Thank you so much for your work. I love RE serias and your patch makes RE4 perfect. The village release suprised me, now castle release finally come, I will keep looking forward to Island release. Could be long, but worth waiting.

  28. Maik says:

I think everybody would agree that we f$#@ing LOVE YOU GUYS!

  29. Omen says:

That is, I extract the files from the first archive, install them, and the files from the second archive are extracted and installed automatically? But how does he find the way to the second archive?) Because the part1 and part2 are in the same download folder?

    • Cris says:

Hello! That’s right – the 2 files need to be in the same download folder so that it can find the second file automatically.

  30. Steven says:

Playing the game and not being sure if it always looked this good is how I know you guys did a really damn good job. You’ve done a fantastic job of keeping the original feel, top professional work. Keep it up, proud of you! I’m looking forward to the final release after everything is perfected!

  31. febio says:

Great job man! I love the castle section…
I had read that is impossible to make real-time shadow; but it’s possible to create manually a static shadow (no to all object obvious) like this table?http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198175438286/screenshot/87099228455852249
    P.S. I don’t know if I made myself clear…sorry for my english

  32. E.P.D. Gaffney. says:

Only tried out the village briefly but I’m thrilled. Great work and more important a fantastic amount of determination and effort. Thank you.

  33. Frannz says:

That moment when you really want to play it, but also want to wait for the full package and the village updated section…
    Amazing work!

  34. Frannz says:

That moment when you really want to play it, but also want to wait for the full package and the village updated section…
    Amazing work!

  35. Jonatan P. Oliveira says:

Thanks for the hard work!!! πŸ™‚

  36. sean says:

    congrats guys! major milestone!!!

    • sean says:

You should update the progress page, it still says several stages of the castle are in progress. Also any news on how far out your next release will be?

      • Cris says:

Although the date at the top of the page was incorrect, the information in the tables is current. There are several stages of the castle that are still in progress even though we did the castle release. We do not have an estimate of when the next release will be (we just did the castle release 1-2 days ago).

  37. Max (Moldova) says:

Good work ! all my respect guys

  38. Indiangamer says:

Is this texture pack for original RE4 or RE4 HD Remaster?

  39. isaac pavon says:

    guys amazing job!!
I’m going to play the game just to admire the new textures.

  40. Jack Fox says:

I have the original 2007 Ubisoft port. Does it work?

    • albert says:

Sorry but they have 2 completely different file structure and formats. They are like 2 different games…

      • Jack Fox says:

Oh alright. Much respect to your great work anyway! I guess I’m gonna get myself the UHD version only to amire your awsome job. I’ll make a donation real soon πŸ˜‰

  41. Guitar Player says:

I was still in gradient 4 when i tested the Castle pack, then i turned to gradient 1 thinking it was gamecube like but it was just a nasty bloom, so i turned to no gradient and it was day and night, Looks like HD resident evil with subtle SSAO.

    • albert says:

πŸ˜› Oh If you downloaded the pack during the first days the gradients didn’t installed properly. You need to extract them from the rar file and overwrite the existant gradient files manually. Cris already fixed the install script and updated the links πŸ˜‰

  42. Rob says:

Hey, I was wondering if when the entire game is finished if you will put a single download up for the entire overhaul, or if it will stay in parts only. Also, you guys really should start a Patreon, other people have done stuff with other copyrighted data and gotten Donations from Patreaon easily, it’s only donations so you cannot get in trouble. Thanks for all your hard work! Can’t wait to see the finished product.

    • Cris says:

Hello! It’ll be the entire overhaul in one release (in a multi-part RAR archive – like how the Castle Release is a single release in a 2-part RAR archive). Re: Patreon, we’ll evaluate that option in the near future. Thanks for the encouragement and support!

  43. Man, Good work. i’ts amazing, I’II make a Video about, congratulations from BRAZIL!! I ask you to fix onde thing, that reflections on the wooden box of money, I’ts like saturated, you know? just onde detail, but the relfections in the rest of the itens looks amazing!

    • Cris says:

Thank you, both for the support and the feedback! We’ll add it to the list of things to revisit as time allows.

  44. kaludio says:

i found some odd stuff and waned to share — https://youtu.be/11oB-hu_o2g — —
    https://youtu.be/oxym6JGEr8U

    • albert says:

Thanks! I’ve just included them in our pending list πŸ™‚
You are right the water can be improved. I guess I can do something about it!

  45. Mohsen86 says:

Thanks for your all hard work! β™₯
I’ve installed the Castle Release, and I’m at chapter 4-1 now! πŸ˜€
You done everything very well and perfect, especially the textures, bump effects and 3D corrections…

But (in my opinion) there’s some odd behavior with some of the new lights! For example the torch next to the cell bars in the prison (first Garrador), it cast the light from the outside through the walls into the cell! Look inside the Garrador’s cell and you see it’s completely lit and there’s no shadow even from the wall on top of the bars! Also I noticed there are lights (without a visible source like lamp, etc) on top of every door… It’s okay, but I think it should only cast/effect on the door itself, not other objects or characters, etc,.
And some areas are too lit…? like the corridor with Merchant’s torch and Typewriter, before Luis’ death.

And something about the statues in the maze…
It’s now very different than the original! I expected something close to the original. ?
But other than that, everything is perfect! ??
The new Typewriter is beautiful though! ?

    Thank you… ?

    • albert says:

Thanks for the feedback! It will helps us to improve a few things.

“It cast the light from the outside through the walls into the cell”
Yep, unfortunatelly the lights in this game aren’t stopped by walls XD. There are ways of occasionally fixing that but I’d need to see if it really helps the scene. Maybe they left that like this because they wanted to highlight the cell. They did it with the doors after all. So, the player see easily the “important” stuff.
I completely agree those door lights shouldn’t reach characters! I thought I fixed that but it seems I forgot. It’s easy to change that light value πŸ™‚

About the corridor, is it too lit compared to the original? If that’s the case I can adjust the lights a little. But I’d need to compare with the original again first
And the statues, we’ll take a look at them and we’ll see if there’s something else we can do about them πŸ˜‰

      Greetings!!

  46. Richard says:

Great work guys, I’ve been replaying through this since the castle release. I’ve run into an issue though; in the large area where the group of monks are gathered chanting, where you pick up the Illuminados Pendent, as soon as I go up the stairs and through the red door, the game crashes back to the desktop. It’s happened 3 times today (there have been 0 crashes up to this point in my playthrough so far), has anyone else experienced this?

  47. alexabdadam says:

sadly I cant use this HD project anymore because when I installed the castle it’s slows my game very much and just to let you to know I have a weak PC but when I installed the village everything was fine but anyway thanks for the hard work Albert & Cris and I will downloaded again when I have a powerful PC

    • Cris says:

I’m sorry to hear it! For reference, though, could you share your system specs? I have a pretty weak PC myself that I run the game on as we’ve been working on it and haven’t experienced any issues. Also, was it from the very first area of the castle? And are you running the game at 60 FPS or 30 FPS?

      • alexabdadam says:

        Windows 10 Pro
        Intel Core i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.50 GHz
        Intel HD Graphics 3000
        RAM 4,00GB
        64-bit
and I use 15 FPS change it from config.ini

        • Cris says:

Hello and thank you for the details. It may be the Intel HD Graphics that’s at the root of it. To clarify, though, you’re running the game at 15 FPS?

          • alexabdadam says:

Yes i’m using 15 FPS (documents\my games\capcom\re4\config) because it 30 FPS my game slow down but it 15 FPS it’s work just fine

          • Cris says:

Gotcha – thanks for the details! I have to assume it’s a combination of the integrated Intel HD graphics and the mobile processor that makes it slow down. This is helpful information for us as we try to optimize for the final release – thanks for letting us know!

  48. Steven says:

I’ve just run through the Castle section, seems like a few of the bigger rooms give me a slight FPS drop. Feels like playing the game in a slight slow-mo. Just for reference my computers able to run most modern games on high and ultra, also I’ve got the crash fix patch for my .exe file.

    My specs are:
    Windows 10
AMD FX 8350, 8 Core processor 4.00 GHZ
    16gb of Ram
    AMD Radeon R9 380

    • Cris says:

Hi Steven! Thanks for letting us know and for the details. A couple of follow up questions, if you have a moment to reply:

      1) Do you recall some of the rooms where this happened? (Am I right that the water room (where you protect Ashley with your Sniper Rifle while she turns the cranks) is one of them? Any others?)
      2) You’re running the game at 60 FPS, correct?
      3) Do you recall if this happened in any of these rooms prior to installing the Castle release?

      Thanks either way!

      • Steven says:

Yes the water room had the biggest slow downs, the room where you fight the 6 armored goons with axes had quite a bit of slow down too. (which made the fight really easy; slow-mo powers.) The room where two lights become one (with all the flying bugs, and the crushing cylinders). The room with the Salazar statue and the tower had slight slow downs too.

        • Steven says:

Oh and I’m running the game at 60 FPS and no I didn’t experience this slow-mo experience before using the HD textures. Y’all did a great job by the way, I really appreciate it a-lot.

        • Cris says:

This is very helpful, thank you! We’ll use this information as we attempt to optimize for the final release.

  49. Mark says:

In the ada note in chapter 4-3, it reads “Radiation” instead of “Medication”, this bothers me (love the release BTW)

  50. Wanderson Moraes de Oliveira says:

Are you creating this patch for xbox 360? Or for pc?

  51. Gabriel says:

Why the texutres does not work in Separate Ways?

    • albert says:

      Hello Gabriel,
Separate Ways room files are stored in separate texture pack files and room data udas files. So, they are treated as different areas.
They will be updated in the final release πŸ˜‰
      Greetings!
