Walkthrough | Chapter 2-1 Fully Remastered

Hello everyone!

Finally!!! Arghhh Chapter 2-1 is finished. No comments are needed this time. Take a look at the previous posts XD

¡ATENCIÓN! ¡EL VÍDEO ESTÁ COMENTADO EN CASTELLANO!

Hmm… The longest video so far, haha. As usual, it has Spanish and (cheap) English subs.

What’s new in the video compared to the July 13th release pack:

  1. Leon’s flashlight has light in all areas, and the light is properly and realistically positioned. (Good or bad for the game’s playability? Let me know what you think!)
  2. New and improved shadows.
  3. Restored fire bloom effects (¡!)
  4. El Gigante, Saddler and Ashley are now remastered
  5. File background images are fully re-created
  6. Some minor 3D adjustments
  7. Lots of lighting adjustments

And here is the video. I hope you like it! … You must like it!! Because it took me ages to do the 2 language subs XD

De verdad no puedo expresar todo mi aprecio a tu excelente trabajo. Esperemos que las próximas actualizaciones sean más fáciles de trabajar. Buena suerte y saludos desde Chile. <3

Watching this side-by-side with the Wii version, the difference is incredible. Amazing work!
The only minor thing I noticed is that the flashlight causes things to look overexposed in certain areas like the cabin at the start. It’s especially noticeable on the breakable boxes. Maybe it’s because of the added light source for the flashlight lighting things twice? It happens in the sheds in the area with the pipe, too.

    • Sean says:

I was sort of thinking something similar, though I was wondering if their was a way to make the entire game a bit darker. I believe albert uses/recommends setting the brightness to max, but I usually prefer keeping the brightness a lot lower, so maybe that will be enough to help

    • albert says:

      Thanks!
Yep. that’s because the light in this area has a very contrasted values (it’s something about an overall lighting configuration every room has). I’ll wait for some more feedback about how the flashlight light looks before doing the final adjustments 😉
But it’s not because the light that reaches leons belt/flashlight. That light source is set to only reach the playable character (Leon) body.

how close is the release of the full final version of the mod?

Incredible work again! I love the lighting changes in the beginning area and the characters are all looking better than ever. The filters and behind the scenes stuff at the end were really nice to see too.

I noticed El Gigante has a weird patch on his stomach that looks separate from the rest of his body at 47:03. I’m not sure if that can be fixed or not but I figured I’d point it out. I also wonder if his skin could use any specularity. Maybe that would just look weird.

Also, this is totally subjective, but I never liked that weird “W” looking piece on top of the los Illuminados symbol on Saddler’s chest. It always looked like something the original artists forgot to remove. It’s in the official artwork, but it looks like the ends of it each come to more of a point.

I hope the move goes well and keep up the great work!

Great video with multiple treasures for fans! I love the torch lighting & all the textures & new shadows! Well done. Looking forward to more videos with eerie music & explanations of your modding work. I really like that you noticed the el gigantes fingers moving after you beat him. First time I noticed it I thought I was imagining it because of how slowly his hand moves lol Ity was nice to see the fire breathing stone dragon heads looked above the door/room where Ashley is locked in. They were so low poly in the 2007 p.c game. Saddler looks amazing now I especially enjoyed the new shadows on his face from underneath his hoodie. Is it possible to put a moon texture in the skies after he wakes up?

    • mofail says:

I meant after Leon wakes up? Also funny what you say about Ashly’s boots, I made a comment about them in the last thread too. They are very weird boots. I really like the last filter you showed, the darkest one? It looked great so please keep the dark one in?

  9. dollmaster says:

    Will you update progress sumary?

  10. EPD Gaffney says:

We are in awe as usual. The sole thing I can point to for improvement so far is that whilst I can’t put my finger on what it is, the plaga wolves somehow don’t seem as finished as the rest of the game that surrounds them any time they’re on the screen. Short of redesigning them, I can’t think of how I’d fix it, so I thought I’d just mention it in case you had plans or thoughts of your own to share.

    • albert says:

Humm now that you mention it. Maybe it’s because of their movements. The humanoid creatures movements were captured from real humans, but… what about animals and other creatures?. I don’t see anything specially wrong in their models so I bet the animations have something to do about that… I can’t say for sure either…

  11. Jerry Fogselius says:

Is there any way you can convince Capcom to make your mod an official patch on all platforms? Would love to get your remastered version on Nintendo Switch, for example!

  12. Juan Maria says:

  13. Frank Nitty says:

Looks good, guys. Thanks for your continued dedication and hard work. Looking forward to the final product

  14. WalkingDeath1337 says:

What updates will the next release include (village only, castle, island, etc.)? How far along is it and when is the progress summary going to be updated?

    • albert says:

Hello! The next one will probably be the last one. An almost final version. Then we’ll wait for feedback about graphic issues or bugs and then we’ll release the Real Final pack. About the Progress Summary, I want to generate new tables when I have some time becadu right now they are too simplistic and outdated. Thanks for asking!

  15. SLH says:

Everything looks great, and there’s so much attention to details! Just a little observation about the end of chapter 2 render: Leon’s left hand looks a bit off. The reason is that the fingers are too flat open. Making them flex a bit would look more natural. The original render was spot on so here’s a comparison:

  16. Greg says:

Buen ojo!
      Saludos!

Hi. Amazing accomplishment. The game looks almost looks like it was made yesterday. Thank you for your dedication, your personal sacrifices and your own time that you invested working and properly remastering resident evil 4 for us all to enjoy for many years in the future. Your work is phenomenal.

    Thank you very much.

    • albert says:

Thank you too for sending us this message 🙂
      All support is really welcomed!
We’ll keep doing our best 😀

  18. Paul says:

Hi, amazing work that you are doing. With the release of the switch version iv come back to see how you guys are going with the HD upgrade. Is it possible to download the character work you have done up to this point?
Also has there been any talk with Capcom about using the work you have been doing on any other platform other than PC?

    Keep up the great work!

    • albert says:

Hello and thanks for the message!
It takes a long time to prepare a patch because it implies testing and it includes a lot of files. That’s why we don’t release packs as often as we’d like.
And about Capcom, there was a talk about a patch for the PC version, but I guess they “forgot” about it or it’s just not in their plans. They are fully aware of the project, that’s for sure. So, it all depends on them if they want to use fully or partially our work if they decide to remaster this game someday.
It actually has never been remastered. They’ve just included a very few HD textures (not faithful to the originals), but they’ve also broken a lot of effects during the porting process. So, I’d say it’s a fact the Gamecube/Wii game running smoothly on Dolphin looks better than the PS4 version.

      • gamer says:

I think you should at least have your own steam page like some other projects do on steam that requires the original game, that would decrease the amount of stuff to download Iam guessing because theres no need for the original games HD textures

      • Sean says:

I’d say it’s a fact the Gamecube/Wii game running smoothly on Dolphin looks better than the PS4 version.

I wish there was someway to port this work of yours over to the gamecube/dolphin version, since the original is the only one with proper balance in terms of health, hitpoints, damage, armor etc.

        • albert says:

The right thing would be to go back to the Gamecube version and porting it again properly and add the PS2 extras again. Because even some things were lost in the Wii version (the inventory models for all characters were the low-poly version from PS2 port is an example…)

          • Sean says:

I dont want a Wii version, I want an HD gamecube version, with the original HP and Damage values… or if it was possible for you to adjust HP values that would be awesome too (but I know you said your not doing that so)

Its such a shame playing the gamecube version because its letterboxed and 4:3 🙁 i cant enjoy anymore

If there was any sort of HD mod for the gamecube version I would be SOOOOOO happy to get to play the original game which I havent been able to enjoy in so long, since the first HD version was released on xbox360. The first time I played the 360 version I knew the games difficulty was different and its still true in the newer version (professional is not any harder than normal in newer versions, the gamecube version was more difficult)

          • Sean says:

Oh whoops I misread what you wrote, yes you are correct but I dont even care about bring any of the extra features back into the game

  19. Rafael says:

Hi, could you make a patch that update from version 713-patch to this current one?
    Thanks.

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways Cutscenes (Remastered in 1080p using AI Machine Learning):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRRoRSxkjXg

    • albert says:

This looks pretty good. Unfortunatelly there’s nothing that can be done with the compression artifacts and all those vertical lines caused by the graphic engine they used to generate the prerendered cutscenes back in the day. Also, even Raz0r trainer alows highest resolution videos to be loaded ingame the codec and video format the video needs to use is the same: and outdated coded that will generate new compresion artifacts on the HD videos. So, there’s not much we can do about it after all.

I also mentioned there are better methods to improve videos but I’m not sure they are available to “general public”. These tools/programs allow to take information about previous and next frames in order to generate much better results than just a frame by frame AI upscaling method. I don’t think nobody tried this on RE videos yet. It would be great to see what this method can do with the separate ways videos…

      • Martin Gustavsson says:

Can’t we find someone that can edit the game engine/code to allow another codec?

  22. Martin says:

Maybe we can find somebody that can modify the engine to allow another codec to be used.

my comment about this earlier today was removed for some reason, it said that the comment was being reviewed and soon after it just disappeared :/

  23. mofail says:

I wonder when capcom will re re re re re re re release their next “hd” resident evil 4 game..?..

perhaps on the play station 5?

Love that the separate ways videos have been some what repaired In earlier comments BRAVO
