Walkthrough | Chapter 4-4 Fully Remastered

Hello everyone!

I hope all of you are ok. We’re still on lockdown here in Spain. Hopefully, we’ll be able to come back to a sort of normality within the next weeks!

Ok, Resident Evil 4 Remake: Right now it’s just a rumor, but I don’t really care if it’s done or not. Capcom’s latest remakes are way different from the original versions. The original game will still be unique and worthy of a remastered version.

Chapter 4-4: This final Castle chapter has only 4 rooms, but they are quite big and complex. The lighting was a real pain to optimize. I needed to deal with lots of technical limitations, but the results are quite satisfactory at the end.

What’s new in this chapter since the last July 2018 release:

  • Adjusted, improved and new lighting and effects.
  • Re-created and restored some textures.
  • A lot of small stage model edits.
  • New and improved stage shadows where needed.
  • Remastered Chapter End background image.
  • Remastered enemies textures and some slight 3D edits.

Enjoy the video and stay safe!

Much love my brother! I truly feel blessed knowing not only will this be completed soon but also re4 remake will be released. If both are good I will have 2 different games that I love dearly, and even if that one isnt as great this remaster mod of yours will always be there to enjoy one of the top games of all time!
I have recently played the 2018 version of your mod and I have found some graphical glitches and inconsistencies I would like to share with you. Can you please give me an email so that I may send you the screen shots? Much obliged. Keep up the good work!

  2. V I D A L says:

Cool. My thoughts exactly regarding the remake. Both RE2 and RE3 are vastly different games and they do not replace the original in the same manner RE1 remake intended to do on GC. If RE4 remake happens, it will be completely different and your work here will still be something to be appreciate the same way I went back to play RE2 and RE3 original with the seamless HD mod after playing the remakes of RE2 and 3. Keep it up.

That said.. do you see the finish line yet?

  3. Hola! Al final cambiaste la textura de los estandartes de la familia Salazar para que estén en español?

  4. Marius Johnsen says:

Even if RE4 remake happens your work is amazing and likely I’ll always love this game even more. Incredibly excited to play the updated version of this mod when it releases.

  5. Zezo says:

Amazing job as always! By the way, since RE4 is perfectly playable on Linux using Steam Play, maybe it makes sense to have an intaller script for that OS as well?

  6. Max Storm says:

Hey Albert, when will you show some comparison images?

  7. mofail says:

okay, who gave the thumbs down in youtube lol ?

  8. Frank Nitty says:

Awesome work as I come to expect. Just finished watching the video and I thought the improvised fixes were ingenious. Looking forward to the next update.

  9. dollmaster says:

Awesome. So, what is left so you guys release a fully remastered RE4?

  10. Bonk says:

    Looks great.
Honestly if Re4 remake is true, I don’t understand why. I also don’t understand WHY they continue to neglect Code Veronica, which is my favorite game in the series. And it really needs a remake. The PS3/360 versions had some nice lighting upgrades but since then it’s pretty much the only one you can’t get on modern platforms. (Though, I wouldn’t necessarily want a CV remake with a Re2R styled Claire as they made her look like a 14 year old girl with none of the charms of existing Claire designs)

RE4 has aged well enough that all it needs is what you guy have been doing a fantastic job of doing the last 5 years. Unlike Capcom’s awful, lazy re-releases that never fix any problems and only create more.
I can only imagine how weird a RE2/3 R style Re4 remake would be, recasting Leon and Ashley would just look weird. And it would only be weirder if they based the appearance and voice from the RE2R guy.

However this does create a COOL situation that not many games can get. Both a reboot that changes the game probably enough that it may alienate fans of the original. AND a fully and faithfully remastered version of the original game that still looks great. So you have both options to play and they can coexist. The same can’t be said of games like FFVIIR where the original game looks like ass with high res rendered 3D characters on super low res blurry backgrounds and is full of translation issues. And the “Classic” mode in the reboot is a complete joke.

So keep doing what you are doing! I am looking forward to this more than any remake.

Dear Albert, I am just utterly BLOWN AWAY by your dedication and incredible work. I remember seeing this project several years ago and it is absolutely amazing that you’re still continuing on making improvements to this day! The updated graphics are phenomenal; just watching your walkthroughs continuously blows my mind with the amount of work that went into every little nook and cranny.

I have some burning questions for you–could you share if the following locations exist in real life (and where)?
    1. Chapter 3-3: The bedroom by the maze where Leon meets Ada @ 4:29 in https://youtu.be/twPrFxAK-Ak?t=269
    2. Chapter 4-1: The room with the moon light + wagon @ 26.22 in https://youtu.be/sjSjNYtv0fI?t=1582
    3. Chapter 4-1: The hallway with red curtains @ 50:33 in https://youtu.be/sjSjNYtv0fI?t=3033
    4. Chapter 3-1: Room with the crank @ 1:03:48 in https://youtu.be/O3aPiVLeW_Y?t=3838
    5. Chapter 3-2: The hall with the upside down statue @ 25:24 in https://youtu.be/50DzMInXku0?t=1522

The castle is absolutely my favourite part and I especially adore those 5 locations I listed above. Even when I was playing on my PS2, I would kill all the bad guys so that I can just stop and stare at the gorgeous architecture, exploring every corner, playing with the camera angles and use my sniper to zoom in on the details. And to be able to experience it now with your incredible remaster… man what a treat! I am speechless. Thank you and Cris SO MUCH for all your incredible work!

  12. X6205 says:

Outstanding achievement, such a high quality work not seen elsewhere.. After quite a long time, i ‘m donating to you again. Stay strong and safe!

    • X6205 says:

Btw., since now is everyhing beautifully detailed, is it possible to inject soft DOF effect with ReShade into this game? Have someone tried that? Or maybe some AO..

      • V I D A L says:

What stops you from trying it yourself?
It should be possible, but then again some of Reshade effects sometimes doesn’t work on a particular game for no reason.

In any case, it’s never a good idea to add DOF reshade in games with real time cutscenes because even if you get a good settings during gameplay, the effect freaks out during cutscene as the camera angle changes and the autofocus gets confused, ruining the cutscenes… You can probably imagine. The cinematic nature of cutscenes would require a different DOF setting for each shot like a movie.
        AO should work fine.

        • Gamer says:

Yeah, effects like DOF probably wont be perfect simply because it needs to be tailored, unless you dont care about items in the menus being blurred or something. The same goes for SSAO which while it can look good, it can show through alpha effects. Maybe Reshade will become “smarter” some day

  13. Master Chen says:

Glad to hear/know that you’ve decided to essentially flip a middle finger to Crapcon’s fugly face after the absolutely inept atrocity that is Last Escape’s/Nemesis’ nu-modern “””””remake”””””, clearly preparing for the “RE 4’s REmake” to end up a massive effing bastardization and an utter disappointment. After what they did to Last Escape/Nemesis, there is clearly no light at the end of the tunnel anymore. Please, all of you people, stay safe and be careful in these daring pandemia times, don’t get sick and keep on working. We NEED you, because people like you are the LITERAL last bastion in these dark days of modern corporate greed-fueled neutered/altered/censored garbage re-releases of everyone’s beloved classics. RE4HD, REupscale, REbirth (by Gemini himself, the legend, the rockstar, THE MAN), and other fan-made projects of such kin…we ALL (the ENTIRE gaming world) are very heavily depending on you, guys.

    • mofail says:

An HONEST but sad & rare point of view about remakes, corporate filth are turning remake into a dirty word…

  14. Sultan says:

This Mod Is Really Cool Hats Off To your work but I want to tell you one thing though it needs a tone to be at its fullest

  15. Ascaron says:

Amazing work!! when do you plan to do the next release? Cheers!

  16. UnclWish says:

Looking perfect! Thanks for your great work! Waiting update!

But, I have some problems. I have 1280×1024 monitor on AMD RX580 8Gb card. Windows 10 x64. 4Gb patch applyed.
    1. Slow motion problem. On some locations, such as church on vilage, my fps drops from 60 to 30-40 and this causes game to slow-motion effect – Leon and all animations start to animate slower. Vertical sync is off. Setting variable framerate to 30 helps a bit, but even with it on some places slow-motion appears.
Read somewhere that slow-motion effect didn’t appears on HD resolutions such as 1440×1080 even on not fast cards. Isn’t it?
Can noHD resolution affects fps drops? How to beat this problem?
    2. Crashs. On some locations such as beginning of chapter 2-1 before waterfall, when 1st gonado with plague appears, game start to crash on desktop. Simple way to check it going through the loading door in ch.2-1 right before this gonado. Just went through it, turn back and went back to save location on lake shore (this location has slow-mo effect too when look on lake). After 2-5 times going through the door game crashs.
But I noticed that game crashs only on some resolutions. F.e. on 1280×1024 or 1152×864 game on this place and some others will crash always. But on 1024×768 or 1280×960 game never crashs at all.
Why resolution causes game to crash?

Anyway this project is great deal! Thank you again! And take care of youself!

  17. john says:

Could you take some of your best backgrounds and do a post of them as zoom backgrounds?
The nice rooms work but really what I’ve been wanting is one of the chainsaw bag man off to my side…

Keep up the good work! Been following for years.

  18. Luiz Carlos says:

Nice job, guys, keep it up! You know, there’s something I’ve noticed long time ago in games, in genera. That is about the character’s rigid body thing or the objects.. Like, when the gun the character is holding touches the wall, it gets inside the wall or the character’s arm. So, I actually think that’s something bizarre and maybe you guys could fix this problem in Re4, after all, that is all about the polygons, right? 🙂

  19. ZeRo says:

Capcom really should hire you or contact you for suggestion at least if RE4 remake comes ture.
    Master piece I will say.
I heard the virus situation in Spain is getting better, good news but keep vigilant.

  20. Sean says:

I’ve been watching your work for several years now, and I’m starting to get to the point where I don’t want to see anymore previews or comparisons. I trust your work is nearly perfect, and I don’t want to watch anymore spoilers 🙂

I really wish you would release a patch download for us to experience your current work so far, and for us to give additional feedback from actual experience rather than just from watching videos. I also don’t want you to rush the final chapters, but we need to show Crapcom that the current UHD edition could be improved further before they go remaking the game. I wish they would just make an all new game set within the RE4 atmosphere, call it RE4.5, but all we need is better FPS in RE4 and motion controls in VR!!!!

  21. Donovankovic says:

this mod when installed, fixes slow motion on steam PC?
