Ashley doing her own thing and… lava inside a castle??

Hello everyone! After the village pack release… the work continues!

This time we are showing Ashley’s ordeal while she tries to survive on her own and the following lava and wagon areas. Ashley’s areas (20d-20e) were full of little details and furniture textures. A lot of re-creation work was put into them. The lava (222) and wagon (210) rooms benefit from lots of real-life assets found, but re-creations were needed as well (and I’m especially proud of that goat head stone carving :)) Remember this is a work in progress πŸ˜‰

    Amazing.

  2. Lukas says:

    This is just too amazing!
IIRC, the Ashley segment in the japanese version had fixed camera angles like the classic Resident Evil games. Is this possible to restore into the EU/US Steam versions? :^)

  3. Bruce says:

Excellent work as always. Random question but why do Leon’s clothes look darker in the after screenshots compared to the before ones?

  4. Hssain says:

    Nice work
Are you recreating textures up to 2160p (4k resolutions) ?

    • Cris says:

Thanks for the question. The resolution for each individual texture varies based on the size of the 3D object that it’s applied to (for example, the textures for the notes Leon finds are lower resolution than the textures for large rock walls). Some of our textures are 8K because they are mapped onto huge 3D objects (for example, large walls, huge doors, etc.), for medium-sized objects and ground textures they’re generally 4K or 2K, and even smaller objects are less. Does that help clarify?

      • Hssain says:

So if I play the game at 4k resolution all textures will be great and optimized?

        • Cris says:

The best way to confirm the visual experience is through downloading the Village release and trying it out on your system. The second best way would be to look at our screenshot comparisons because we tend to zoom in rather close for those shots. I hope that helps!

I think some of the textures Capcom introduced in “HD Edition” are inferior when compared to the original game. For example, this shack looks far too clean and unrealistic: http://canadianonlinegamers.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/resident_evil_4_ultimate_hd_comparison_01.jpg
But Capcom did a great job with the character models, they even stand up to the modern games. You are still improving the texture work?

    • Cris says:

We are working through the game in the following order:
      – Environmental Textures
      – Items and Weapons
      – Enemies, NPCs, Playable Characters, Misc.
      – Mercenaries, Separate Ways, and anything not covered above
There’s still room for improvement in the character model textures. Also, check out the FAQ for more information about the project: https://www.re4hd.com/?page_id=104

“So if I play the game at 4k resolution all textures will be great and optimized?”

    WTF…
You can play Mario 64 in 4k..

    • Pedro says:

But it won’t feel “great and optimized”.

He meant: “If I play in 4k resolution, will I see the pixels of the textures or the polygons that will ruin my experience”.

Capcom haven’t changed models in this one ?!

I don’t want to sound like an ass, but I don’t like the texture on the circular thingy on 20DG. It makes it far too obvious that those… err… how are they called? wood sticks (I know that’s not their name, but I troly don’t know how to call them) are part of a flat texture as opposed to give the illusion that they’re made with polygons. I know it’s hard and I couldn’t make a better texture, but yah that jumps to my eyes. Sorry.

Other than that, absolutely beautiful work.

    • Cris says:

You don’t sound like an ass, don’t worry! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the feedback — we’ll consider it for future revisions. Also, HAPPY NEW YEAR! πŸ™‚

Great. I’m curious about some paintings, drawings and statues decorations in the game (like the last shot). I have wondered it before, but now seeing how nicely they are coming together I want to ask.

How are you doing it? Are you a painter/illustrator as well and are recreating these pieces manually or did you actually found the real painting or statue? The Salazar painting obviously had to be recreated. Let me know. Cheers

This project has made me buy RE4 again. It will stay in my backlog until this is finished. You are guys are doing mind blowing work. Will donate this month when i get paid :).

  11. Cris Without H says:

I think that Salazar’s painting looks a little bit too old and sinister. I dunno, maybe it’s just the way he looks, but I doubt the painter would want to paint him this way ^^
Also, about the riddle with multiple pieces…. I thought it was a dragon my whole life o: Like, that texture looked absolutely atrocious on the PS3 version, which I own. You would not believe how much this puzzle has bothered me due to its low-res look. I think the PS2 version (I used to have that one but lost it ;-;) looked better than the PS3 one, but this is absolutely amazing!

    • albert says:

I took this Salazar painting from the official artbook. So, it was officially this way (I just removed the obvious marks of being infected –visible veins and pale skin colour– because I assumed the painting was made before Salazar got the Plaga)
Hehe yes, those zoom-in puzzles benefit the most from the texture project πŸ˜€

      • Cris Without H says:

o: I must take a look at that artbook. Sounds like it could have some interesting things in it. I guess he looked like a creep from the beginning, then ^^
