Garbage Dump Area (Room 30b)

I’m approaching Ashley (again). But I must go across a stinky garbage dump area first!

When I started this project, the more terrifying textures that came to my mind were located in this room. Those control panels… And now, after months of hard work and intense texture work training… it wasn’t that hard to re-create! But I did need to have a lot of patience in order to place every single button and light in its place and to adjust the colour and luminosity for every one of them! I think I beat my own record of Photoshop layers for just one texture!

As you can see, I remodeled all those garbage containers. I tried to maintain elements present in the original texture (black plastic bags, cardboard boxes, a wooden pallet…) but all of them with more realistic and logical sizes.

I also remodeled those pipes in the wall. The original 3D file was an extremely low-poly model. The results are more obvious and “attractive” in motion.

I hope you like all the UV mapping corrections and other 3D edits I’ve done so far. Remember this is a work in progress, but don’t hesitate posting your comments about the re-created textures you’ll see in the pictures and in the video. As I’ve said in previous posts, I have no idea what the hell I’m re-creating sometimes!

Hey, I just donated $5… I know it’s not much but I commend the work you’ve been doing since I got word of the Village mod u made available for download more than a year ago. Good luck w/ the project, and I look forward to it’s completion. Happy Holidays

Thank you very much! All support and comments are really appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚

You’re welcome. I felt implored to donate. RE4 is one of my top 5 games of all time. I loved every min of playing it when I beat it on PC. Ur dedication to this title: attn to detail, quality of work, sensitivity to the fans’ feedback to improve is what makes me gravitate towards ur project. I get really hyped each time u guys report an update on the project. I’ve been subscribed to your blog since the release of the Village mod (when it was reported by kotaka last yr) and to the YT page. Thank u for all that u do

Fantastic work yet again. The only thing I’m personally not convinced by are those dark red tiles with the white scrawling patterns. They just seem a little formulaic if that makes sense. I can see you’ve been true to the original design and either way, they still are a massive improvement. Can’t wait for more updates.

    • albert says:

Thank you for letting us know what you think.
The interesting thing here is that they are the same tiles. I found them in Barcelona and they are the tiles Capcom took the picture from 15 years ago. It’s used as floor texture in the Merchant’s mini game room.
The original texture was heavily edited using an emboss/sharpening filter and they look somewhat different becasue of that. Using those filters with a high defintinion picture doesn’t work well and it gives an unnatural and too filtered look to the texture. I hope this makes sense too haha

Are you sure they’re the same? The ones here appear to have floral patterns on them. In comparison the HD version you guys did just looks like scribbles. One of the few areas I have noticed that doesn’t work very well, so it’s not a huge deal but I am somewhat surprised you failed to see the flower pattern.

    Fantastic work again!

Only feedback would be the tops of those levers look rather low poly and the material doesn’t look like what I would expect to be on the top of a handle, i’d expect for something industrial like that the lever would have a hard, shiny plastic that could withstand plenty of use. I’d also imagine the colours might be different for two levers on the same panel to help distinguish between the two.

Then again I work in an office so i’m just guessing lol.

    • albert says:

      Hi!
Hehe I know what you mean. It probably will suffer of further improvements, since this is in the first stage of revision. I guess there are thousand of models of levers in the world, so I simply stiked to the original design because, like you, I work in an office too and I have no idea about levers haha ;). And I agree it could look a little more detailed in terms of 3D modeling. Again, it’s just a question of not falling into a neverending spiral of perfectionism. But we’ll take that into consideration and I guess it’s quite simple improving them a little more ๐Ÿ™‚
      Thank you for the comments!!

    • Matt says:

Yeah they almost look like microphones ๐Ÿ˜›

    • [ROLO] says:

I totally agree that “mesh” texture on top of the levers doesn’t look good, plain would be better. Also, the brown office chair texture looks blurry, has it been redone?

Anyway, superb work as always, the trash looks extremely good, also the tiles (the red/brownish ones) look awesome, its great that you found the original wall.

This is probably the best retexture work ever.

      • albert says:

We’ll surely revise again those levers in the nest stage ๐Ÿ˜‰
Both chairs are brown hehe. Which one are you referring to? the leather one or the fabric one?

  5. Steven says:

Your work is still really fantastic. All the comments here have already said what I think needs to be revised.

I like the reflection of the room you’ve put on the computer monitors, that’s a nice touch.

  6. Alex says:

I love how faithful you guys are to the original aesthetic. This is easily the most effective yet accurate hi-res mod I’ve ever seen for any video game. Normally, I like my games to be vanilla because I want the experience intended by the developer, but your mod actually makes the game look like how I remember it, without any compromises! I have never said that about any visual mod before!

I finally donated like I planned to for the past year, though Capcom really should be paying you guys for doing their work, especially because I only rebought RE4 on PC because of this mod (in fact, I bought it twice on PC, and once before on console.) Anyway, I sent you more than I payed Capcom for the one Steam copy, because you guys honestly deserve it more.

I’m still holding out on replaying on PC until the mod is complete, so hopefully that day comes soon! With all the progress you’ve made so far, do you see it being finished by summer 2016?

    Keep up the great work!

    • albert says:

Thank you very much Alex! ๐Ÿ˜€
I’m re-creating a Video-Recorder control panel right now while I’m writing these lines XD
We are working as fast and as hard on this project as we can but we have no idea of the finishing date. It depends on many personal and no personal factors (mostly related to the available free time factor)
We only hope all of you enjoy this “remastering trip” as much as we are doing ๐Ÿ™‚
      Thanks again!

      • Steven says:

I think its pretty fun just reading about each update to this mod, I’d love for it to be released as soon as possible, but honestly, work on it as long as you feel the need, I’d rather have a really great mod than a rushed one.

Wow… this never stop getting better. The rubbish bins are super impressive with all 3D edits. Now you can cleary see the individual pieces of trash.
    Fantastic dude.

  8. Sophia Sparks says:

    Excellent work.

Oh, it’s probably not a problem at all, but when you get to the center of the room, check the very bottom of the pit at your right: the textures looks awkwardly repetitive and kinda bizarre…

I guess the RE devs didn’t expect people to look down there… A simple thing to fix it, should be making a additional texture, to depict what’s really down there (you DO have to get there with Ashley later in the game anyways) with a top-view snapshot of the very beginning of the room, with the heavy metal boxes and the two spiky regeneradors (iron maidens).

If you do look for it, it’s only when you will begin to working on the same room I mentioned.

    But EH, it’s mandatory.

    • albert says:

      Hello Sophia!
Good eye! In fact, that was my plan. I’ll take that portion of the scene to this room when I reach the bottom of the garbage dump area and after all remaster process. So, what you see in both rooms matches perfectly! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Daniela says:

You’re doing an amazing job! Keep up the good work, I’m looking forward to see it all complete! Resident Evil 4 is one of my favorite games <3 ๐Ÿ™‚
