Happy 2016! I’m happy to share an update from the room where you get the King’s grail. This room was fun, yet frustrating for a few reasons:
- The 3D modeling for the curtains were rather lacking, so I had to recreate them from scratch. I’m happy with the level of detail in the end result.
- There are a number of statue heads in the room (a wolf, a deer, etc.) and in the original game they took one messy looking metallic texture and used it for all the models, resulting in quite a mess. This has been corrected by creating a separate texture for each model and then remapping it. The knight’s armor hanging in the room was also rather messy – to the point where it seems like it was simply a mistake that looked passable in the original due to the low resolution.
I hope you enjoy the work in progress, and here’s to a great 2016 (and *fingers crossed* the completion of the project). 🙂
you rule!
That lion hair, beautiful work as always. You keep amazing no matter what. Congratulations on your work!
Holy cow! When this project will finally reach its completion, it’s gonna be sweet as hell!
Just a technical question thought: Do you also keep all the original files for your project, on emergency HDDs or external drives?
Everything can happen…
And a critical failure can put all the hard-working efforts to waste…
Or in case that CAPCOM throw a corporate tantrum… I apologize, I have a hard time trusting them.
It’s hours, after days, after months of textures and models. So it’s just a extra precaution.
Thanks! Yes, we each have taken steps to ensure everything is backed up. Better safe than sorry! 🙂
Also Capcom is 100% supportive of Cris/Alberts work.
Oh yes! Sorry, I overlooked that in the original question. The reason we have a good back system is purely because hard drives will eventually fail and we don’t want that to hinder our work. No concerns on the Capcom side of things!
those curtains look fantastic, great work with everything else as well
I can’t wait to see the final product… I’m rooting that 2016 is the year it’s completed.
Really great work, like always. Greetings! 🙂
Wow! Just wow! Truly amazing work you guys are doing. Wishing you all the best for 2016!
This is simply astonishing. I’m pretty sure you two perfectionists will release a 2.0 version of this ultra high definition pack after the initial release eventually. i can feel it.
I will play this game extra slow just to admire all the little details!
I fear that my pc’s specs aren’t cutting it though.
Actually I wish you two would start a Videogame Remastering company. It drains so much of your little free time and takes so much time to complete that it would be great if you had some more help and would get paid to do this to earn your monthly salary.
But I don’t know if we would see the same result if you are doing it as a fulltime job and you have to meet deadlines and have to make sure your company stays profitable. Another thing is passion, you two said that RE4 is one of your favorite games of all times and that’s why you two are putting so much effort into this and redo everything numerous times till it’s perfect.
But I imagine how amazing lots of older games could look in 4k if they were retextured, polygons added and some modern lighting and post processing gfx added. I’m thinking about Resident Evil Code Veronica HD on Ps3/360, it has such washed out textures.
Thanks to some modern emulators you can see how great classic games in HD and with AA/AF can look. For N64 and Gamecube Games there are even some HD Texture Projects for popular Games (Mario 64, Mario Sunshine) or just updated HUD, Fonts (Resident Evil Games… etc.)
But is a lot of work as you guys know.
incredible
2016 release would be cool, but I don’t mind a 2017 or even 2018 if it means the project is even better.
I like your work on the curtains and everything, however I think the lions face looks a little weird from that angle, and the bottom of the paws have a super flat 90 degree angle that catches my eye. None of this is really a big deal to me, and I’m pretty sure you’ve already thought about it.
Hello, I agree with you, amazing work but that last lion face looks a little bit weird, I don’t know
The more I see these comparisons, the more I ask myself “What the F were the guys at Capcom thinking?!” Good work guys!
Awesome work!!! Hello from Russia!
Thanks you guys for your work! I’m looking forward to the release.
From russia with love 🙂
