Touching up all rooms before the Castle release (II)

Happy New Year to everyone! (with one week  delay :P)

Here goes a second batch! As I mentioned in the previous post, I’m doing the final refinements to the Castle section of the game. These final edits consist of some aditional 3D work and lighting adjustments.

I’m really happy with the results and I can’t wait all of you to play the Castle pack so you’ll understand some of these changes 🙂

    Huh, restored lens flare effect in every update post 😛 I don’t even remember it that much in Wii version, to be honest.
    Looks great, waiting patiently for a castle section release.

    Hey Albert. Everything looks phenomenal. The door in doesn’t even look like something from a video game. Anyhow, I know you like feedback, so here are a few small edits you could make to make it a little better. I’ll number them so they’re easy to read.

    #1 The table with the gold decor doesn’t look very true to the original. If you could somehow make the gold into black, it would match better. Here’s what I’m talking about:

    #2 Don’t you think it’s a little bright out? It’s supposed to be night time. Maybe you took the screenshot as the lightning lit up the sky? I do vaguely remember thunder and lightning in the game.

    3# If you aren’t messing with the camera, can you easily see this black space? If you can only see it playing with the camera than never mind, but it may look more complete to put a simple texture over the blackness so it doesn’t look unfinished.

    4# One last black space, that I think can be fixed by stretching the design a bit.

    Malditasea no parais de ponerme los dientes largos, pero yo no quiero jugar solo el pueblo y el castillo con esa calidad…QUIERO QUE SAQUEIS TODO LO QUE HABEIS HECHO HASTA AHORA, coñe que ya teneis incluso secciones de la isla casi terminada, en serio cuanto os queda para sacar un pack con todas estas modificaciones?.Quiero jugar al Resident Evil 4 de principio a fin con todo eso!!! XDDD

      Haha XD Un poco de paciencia (un poco más, quiero decir :P)
      Imagino que la parte de la isla no tardaremos tanto como la del castillo. Pero no queremos ponermos fechas, para evitar presiones psicológicas. Solo podemos dedicarnos al proyecto en nuetsro tiempo libre y si ningún asunto personal nos lo impide. Por eso vamos a nuestro ritmo y sin promesas de “cuando”.
      El objetivo es hacerlo tan bien como podamos.

      Las zonas de la isla que hemos mostrado solo han recibido la primera revisión. Falta que Cris haga su trabajo en ellas, de ahí que esa parte no la publiquemos aun.

        No si te entiendo, se que esto se hace por amor al arte y que lo haceis todo cuando teneis un poco de tiempo, lo cual hace que esto aun tenga mas merito a mi parecer, pero es que ya veo que os queda tan poquito a simple vista, que no puedo evitar tener cierta impaciencia.Si os digo la verdad yo me quedaria mas que conforme con lo que habeis hecho hasta la fecha, ya solo os queda a simple vista la parte del enfrentemiento final y no le veo mucho sentido a remasterizar el momento de la moto acuatica porque eso pasa tan rapido que no dara tiempo a fijarse en los detalles XDDD

        Pero imagino que estais siendo tan perfeccionistas que no podeis evitar aplicar la maxima de “estara listo cuando este listo” XDDD, aun asi espero que al menos para este 2017 saqueis un pack con toda la remasterizacion practicamente terminada.Tal y como os digo, estoy esperando a que la termineis para asi instalar el Ultimate HD y poder disfrutarlo como nunca antes lo habia visto

        En todo caso intentare ser un poco mas paciente…solo un poco XDDD

          Es complicado entrar en detalles, pero la manera en que hacemos las cosas es la que nos resulta más práctica para conciliar el tiempo de que disponemos con el proyecto y nuestras vidas. Pero entendemos que se haga larga la espera y agradecemos la comprensión! 🙂

    Thanks for this great update, i am also happy because you revised weather to HD version in the 4. photo. However, in this photo’s hd version, the weather is more like daytime to the original. In the original game, the moments of this photos time is the night time .Please make this weather a little darker.

    Is village section getting any improvements in this release (not including already released) or just castle part?

      Hi! It will be just the Castle part. As I mentioned somewhere else. We don’t want to share yet another unfinished version of the Village (because we haven’t polished all Village rooms yet). It would be somewhat confusing I think.

        I asked about this before and you said it would be too much to recompile and would delay the release, which is understandable and I think that you should do what you think is easier. I’m just wondering how you plan to do the final release?

        Like, lets say you have the island finished in less than (hopefully) 2 years, will you be releasing 3 separate downloads for each section? Then doing the extras after that?

        And what about the extras, like character models, mercs & ada? Are you going to make us wait till you have everything 100% before you do a final release? It seems like that would be so long to wait for the village which I really wish we didnt have to wait for. Wouldn’t it be good to let us test things in case something needs tweaking?

        If I had a choice between the following I would choose options 3
        Option 1 – the castle is released soon, then the entire game is completed in 2 or so years as one complete set
        Option 2 – the castle is released soon, then the village and island is released in less then 2 years (with character models, mercs & ada coming later)
        Option 3 – the castle is delayed, the village is finished, and both are released later this year, with the rest of the island coming next year, and the extras after that

        I wouldn’t mind waiting a few more months for the castle, if it meant getting the village sooner. But more importantly: One of the biggest things I’m hoping you can do is fix the flickering in mercs stage 4 because its unplayable. Please see if you can find a way to release a mini-fix for that asap (without any new textures)

          Thank you for your thoughts sean.
          We try to find a balance between our free time, personal life and this project. Therefore we take some decissions that probably won’t be the most popular.
          In fact, we had no idea about the Castle release 2 months ago! So, I don’t have an answer for you right now about future releases.

          Wasn’t that flickering bug fixed with one of the official patches?

            Thanks for the fast reply. I read the flickering only occurs with certain graphics cards but I’m not sure. I hope this isn’t bad to say but I am (currently) using a pirated version of RE4UHD because I feel I have already purchased more than enough copies of RE4 on multiple platforms. I might pick it up the next time its on sale to make sure I have the latest updates, but for now I am mainly waiting for your final release 🙂

    I cant wait to see mercenaries ! The worst looking enemies in this game in my opinion are the soldiers & some village ganados so I am also eager to see what they will look like when they are done ! These castle wall details are great to look at now, it is a very detailed area of the game so this castle will be a slow exploring journey for me when it is released.

    Dear Albert,
    For the awesomeness that you guys have done, I’ve check your progress every single day, and your work turn out so good.
    But sorry for my nitpicking, on this photo here:
    The sky outside is really dark and nebulous, that make the atmosphere is very scary there, behind those trees…
    Comparing to your work :
    The sky is more blue, and brighter.
    It would be so nice if you just keep the brightness and the saturation of the sky original…

      Hello and thanks for you comments!!
      As I mentioned, I only moved the light position of the sky so the shadows and lights have sense now. The original sky has the same light spot in another location. Please, take a look while playing the game in that area and you’ll understand 😉

    I dunno about the knight paintings in the first screens. They are paintings, right? The updated knights look too “real”, especially with all that bright shine. Like they’re stock photos of a Halloween costume from an online store, lol.

    Also what’s going on with the table legs in the CR09 screens? They look like they’re sticking up in the air. Maybe it’s just the perspective with the rug underneath, I dunno.

    Otherwise, yeah, looks great as always.

      I think the original knights painting was already “weird” I’ve never seen a painting like that… So, the HD version is… HD-weird XD
      I’m not sure right now… it could be a realistic painting. As I said, I don’t think there is any old/classic/antique painting like this out there.

      I think that’s the perspective, an optical effect. But I’ll check it when I’m home just in case… 🙂

        i came here to post this– love what you’re doing, been following this project for a long long time, but what should ostensibly be a painting of a knight just looks like a photograph and it’s very jarring. even a simple use of the photoshop filter gallery for some fake brush strokes would greatly improve your results, i think. thank you for everything you do!

          Hello and thanks for the feedback. The revised knight painting texture is actually based on a painting, not a photograph, and this is more noticeable from up close (you can see the brush strokes more readily). I do think there are two factors that make it look like a photograph in that screenshot – the fact that it’s taken from so far away, and that the reflections on the knight’s armor are so well done that it looks like photography. So, there is some opportunity here for improvement (perhaps intentionally dulling the reflections to make it less photo-realistic) – I’ll add this to my list of things to return to once time allows. Thanks again!

      Could you specify a little more? There’s a generalized confusion about missing effects and which ports lack of them. And I’d like to know which ones do you miss so I can give you a good answer 🙂

    I won’t speak for Albert but I’m almost 100% sure that animation changes are out of scope for this project. Plus, think about it. You really want Leon to load every shell for the shotgun? Imagine how long a reload might take when you get the exclusive upgrade for the Striker!

      Yep. You are right. Well… there were so many things we are doing that initially were out of scope… XD
      Anyway, I’m almoast 99% sure we won’t edit anything animation ralated. And that’s true: we can’t edit those animations to be realistic because it would kill the game experience.

    Pictures knights hurt the living, maybe less contrast? otherwise similar to the real knights.

      Hello! We’ll take that into cosideration. It seems some people see these paintings a bit off but they look beatiful at closer distances, believe me 🙂
      Anyway, we’ll gather all feedback when the castle release is out and then we’ll make the final refinements ;D
