    Greet Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
    Thanks for HD texture

is the game will demand more source (like more Memory RAM, CPU, GPU usage) after patching?

    • Cris says:

Mostly likely it will demand more GPU usage, but we do not yet know the exact difference or impact. We will post more information once we have it. Thank you for the interest in our project!

From what I’ve read about your intentions and from what I know, I may be wrong or inaccurate, I suspect the greatest increase in hardware requirements would be increased VRAM due to the larger textures, which would have to be loaded into the graphics cards RAM. Possibly also the internal memory bandwidth of the graphics card though that is seldom a weak point even on older hardware so that should be a non issue.

If you aren’t adding anything other than larger textures, there should be no noteworthy increase in the requirements other than VRAM/RAM. Though that is presuming they are just simple textures that don’t require processing such as bump/normal/parallax mapping (though I don’t remember the RE4 engine even supporting or using that but I haven’t played it since it’s PC release).

Since the original game has such low requirements today (recommended is: CPU 2GHz P4, RAM 512MB, VRAM 256MB) you should be able to go pretty wild considering even a budged card today is likely to have 1GB of VRAM, finding a new one with less is rare, and a mid range graphics card today will likely have 2GB+. At which point you will be reaching a limit with the game being 32bit and will have to use something to set its Large Address Aware flag (on the game’s .exe) for it to be able to use more than 2GB, though even on a 64bit system it can’t use more than 4GB since it’s a 32bit program.

So presuming I’m right, your only concerns performance wise should be memory related, and stability should you cross 2GB without Large Address Aware and not touching the impassable 4GB limit even with LBA.

You could use something like CPUz to monitor how much of your graphics card’s RAM is being used while running your modified version of the game to help you set or keep to a target, and when you may be approaching either the 2GB or 4GB limits. You should also be able to use this to see how much more RAM is required compared to the original/unmodded game and give surprisingly accurate RAM requirements for your Texture Mod.

    Hi there.

    I made a comparison video.

Thanks for making this and sharing! (And for downloading the demo release!) One piece of feedback: right now your labels are “HD” and “UHD.” Instead it should be “UHD” to refer to Capcom’s version (that’s what they call this version), and “RE4 HD Texture Project” to refer to ours (if it’s possible to revise). 🙂

Regardless, great comparison video! Thanks for the time and energy that went into it!

  4. Eddie says:

will this be replacing the uhd textures or the original cuz i wanna be able to switch on the fly for comparisons and nostalgias sake

    • albert says:

      Hello Eddie,
Yes, this will replace the HD textures. So, the original textures will remain intact and available if someone wants to take a look to the orginal GC/Wii textures.
      Thank you for asking!

  5. Sandy leyva says:

Wow just tried this today and it looks 30% better with the textures. Great great work just what the game is missing. The true HD edition this masterpiece deserves.

  6. cool says:

Honestly capcom should take your work and make it an oficial patch for the game, it looks fantastic……

  7. Brian says:

Are you saying Youtube had the orignal audio to be removed or will you be removing the original audio from your finished version of the game?

  8. Auddy07 says:

I am one of the leaders in the RE4 speedrunning community and we are absolutely loving this project! Once I get paid again I will be donating for sure. I am looking forward to making my speedruns look amazing with this upgrade, but I am afraid that it will affect the speed of the game. I hope it doesn’t use up too many resources so that the game doesn’t take a hit. That is the only downfall I can see from this project. Have you guys done any testing to see how much RAM and such it uses? Thank you so much for you hard work and good luck for the rest of the way! ^_^

  9. geo says:

seriously this is amazing as a resident evil fan what your doing is just fantastic. i wish when they released it had the level of detail that you have taken the time to do thank you now i can really enjoy this game with better technology

  10. Sunhidden says:

    • albert says:

Thank you for letting us know and for your words 🙂
Please, take a look at our “Experiencing occasional crashes?” post you can find in the Village download section and let us know if that solved your problem.

I think it’d be really interesting to make a video showing bits and pieces of your creative process – creating the HD textures from scratch, using old textures and/or pictures for reference, applying them in-game, etc… I’m really curious about how this actually gets done, and I’m sure a lot of others would find it cool too.

  12. Justin says:

    And the full game?

  13. Tiivaz says:

Will the game have platinum trophy on ps4

  14. Ebeeze says:

Phenomenal work gents, just booted up this ol’ boy up and am loving the difference. solid, solid work.

  15. Fernake says:

Esto es simplemente impresionante, muchas gracias por brindarnos la oportunidad de disfrutar uno de los mejores juegos de accion de la historia con una autentica remasterizacion.

  16. Erfan says:

Thanks for remastering re4 but it was better you working more on character moving and shooting and… like that capcom is doing with resident evil 2

  17. steve says:

Hi the game works fine and the graphics are really good looking and i am now doing a let’s play series of this game and you can view the series from my youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfLWwjpUg1dIDQ5Ybv5PcrA

if channel advertising is not okay in here you can just remove the post. But in my gameplay you can see the graphic effects on full settings except the motion blur. sometimes the game slows down for no apparent reason and when you move away from the spot it suddenly stops. it also crashes to black screen when moving from level to another. check it out from my channel. and thank you guys for making the proper HD patch for the game. it really looks great now 🙂

    • albert says:

No problem! You also are advertising our project in your video haha
Thank you for paying attention to the details while playing 🙂

Did you applied the 4GB patch? It’s more than recommended (In fact, I’d say it’s impossible to play the game properly unless you apply the 4GB patch to the bio4.exe file)
