GAMECUBE CONTROLLER BUTTON SCHEME

NOTE: it doesn’t include button textures, it only will remap your controller buttons.

For years, I’ve been using an input.ini file that changes the controller button scheme to match the GameCube one when using an XBOX 360 controller. I can’t remember who created it, but it feels great if you are used to the GameCube button scheme… The only problem is when the game asks you to press “A” you’ll have to press “X” and vice versa. The download contains:

  • The input.ini file.

First of all, thank you for all your work, this project is amazing. Could you make a Playstation Controller Button Scheme for all of us that play using PS controller ? 🙂 , thanks.

  2. Nick Swenson says:

…You included a Gamecube button scheme?? Thank you so much!1

  3. Dillon says:

    Hey, congrats on the release!
Was wondering if the new download contains the gradient file that emulates the GC look, and if not could you put that in this section?
    Thanks 🙂

    • albert says:

Yes, it has custom filters including that one
I can create other filters and offer them as separate downloads…
but it will be in a few weeks. Now I’m dealing with all the feedback XD

      • Dillon says:

Ah, haha well you desrve all of the praise I’m sure you are getting.
Oh, one more thing. I know it’s kinda outside the scope of what you’ve done with this, but I was wondering if it was possible for someone to reanimate RE4. An example would be in the beginning at the village. The villager taking the wheelbarrow around in circles; if you notice he isn’t really holding the handles on it, just made to vaguely look like it. How hard would it be for someone to say continue your work here and add in reanimations like that, or is the engine too limiting?

      • Diego says:

  4. Alex Galarza says:

Thank you so much for this awesome port!!! Any way to remove the “LOADING” screen to match the GameCube original? PC nowadays are so fast the scenes transition quickly and the “LOADING” screen breaks some of the immersion. The GameCube original simply faded to black between scenes. Thanks for reading! 🙂

    • albert says:

      Hello!
This is one of the optional patches I want to add in the bonus page 😉
Since the textures are huge, it takes longer in some computers and the Loading appears during a couple of seconds
Also, I’ve seen the Loading text in my GC copy… soooo maybe the Loading text doesn’t appear only in the American version ¿?¿?¿? strange…

      • Nick Swenson says:

Came down here just for this exact thing!
That is strange, I played the NA Gamecube version as well as the NA Wii version the most and never saw the “Loading…” screen. I always thought it was added specifically for the lower-spec PS2 version.

        • Alex Galarza says:

That is correct. The NA Gamecube version does not have a “Loading” screen. The fist time I saw it was for the PS2 port and most ports going forward from there. Thank you for considering as an optional patch. 🙂

          • albert says:

Ahh another difference of the NA version haha
I checked the European one. It DOES have the loading screen
            No problem!
As soon as all the major issues are fixed, I’ll take some time to create the extra downloads packs

      • Anthony says:

Indeed, most ports were based on the European version. The American GameCube version had the most differences, I finished a round with the merchant having about 32 first aid sprays in stock xD

        • albert says:

Haha yeah, I wonder why they released the American version before the Japanese and even unpolished at some degree… deadlines to accomplish maybe?

          • Michael says:

It wouldn’t be the first time that there were differences between regions and releases. The first RE had no auto aim in the American version in addition to less ink ribbons.

Early builds of the American version even had the item boxes set up such that they were not connected to one another but this feature was later scrapped although it was brought back in the remake’s real survival difficulty.

I recently played through the NTSC Gamecube black label version on my gamecube and even did a no merchant pro run after playing through the mod and noticed some differences.

For example, I noticed that enemies seem to be more aggressive and the knife does less damage. For example, you can’t knife regenerators to death like you can in later versions.

In 5-2 after Ashley crashes the bulldozer and you go into the Merchant room the gamecube version has no music whereas other editions, including this mod, have the serenity theme playing.

Upgrades are different for a few items as are their costs in the store.

I also noticed that some strats used in speed runs don’t work in the NTSC version as well like how most people finish the opening village section by throwing two grenades ending the sequence rather quickly. Not sure if its because you need to kill more enemies or if something else is going on.

  5. Mario says:

is it possible to add native compatibility for a gamecube controller so the game can be played exactly as it had been with the og controller?

    • Smurfman256 says:

I second this. vJoy just doesn’t want to behave with this title when I try using my real GameCube controller with the Wii U GCN adapter.

  6. Leo Prada says:

Hello guys, thanks a lot for this great work. Greetings from Colombia.

  7. DarkLink1308 says:

My suggestion for a bonus, if possible, is a bonus that restore the classic properties of the P.R.L. 412. The laser shot of the classic version didn’t hit multiple enemies, it didn’t hit breakable objects, it wasn’t homing on the enemy and the maximum power laser shot charge was longer. The classic version is only possible to find in the PS2 and PC 2007 version of the game. I find the classic version of this weapon more challenging and fun to use. The new version is very overpowered.

    • DarkLink1308 says:

Forgot to mention but the classic version didn’t hit animals either

    • acp says:

Since were talking about weapon nerfs, maybe include the option to decrease the weapon firepower of some guns to match the original GC version. Like Blacktail only have 4.5 on its exclusive firepower instead of 6.5 in newer ports.

Help! I found that secret room you added with the parasite strung up and the many ominous writings in Spanish. I picked up the silencer, but it’s not in my inventory and disappeared from the field. What do I do?

      Thanks!

      • Logan says:

I’m sorry. I’m intelligent enough in the way that game coding works. What am I looking for on that page? Also wow! When I discovered that secret area, my mind was blown! As I was walking it my heart was throbbing waiting for something to come and try and kill me. I totally thought that ancient parasite was going to come to life. Amazing job man!

      https://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil4/mods/32

          Saludos!

I found a z-fighting issue in the 2nd map of the village (the one with the chicken coop. after you walk towards the way out (the way to the boulder scene) if you look up towards the deck (the one you drop off of to get the Beerstein) under the deck there is z-fighting on one of the boards holding it up.

  13. Will says:

Outstanding work on the mod and release! I was curious if you were planning on making it possible to use Ada’s RE2 costume in Separate Ways? It just looks so good!

  22. DrSalvador says:

Hi, first great work Albert & Chris on the 1.0 release. Been keeping an eye on this for ages and now I can finally say – this is one of the best texture/model packs ever released.

You mentioned in the latest update that the 1.1 patch may include a unreleased/updated version of nipkow & emoose’s re4_tweaks. Recently emoose seems to have has created an audio resampler tool to update the sound files inside BIO4\snd to be a higher sample rate https://github.com/nipkownix/re4_tweaks/issues/24#issuecomment-984863523. This lets the game work better with X3DAudio HRTF to allow the game to output binaural audio.

Since the RE4HD project already involves replacing the the BIO4 folder, is there the possibility of the main release, or a bonus release pack, to include the resampled audio so that anyone wanting to add 3D audio to RE4 can just drag and drop the X3DAudio dll, or is there even the possibility of contacting the X3DAudio HRFT author to distribute the the X3DAudio dll along with the RE4HD pack so that this becomes both a visual and audio update! 🙂

    Thanks

    • albert says:

      Oh this looks promising!
I’ll ase emoose about the potential of all this stuff fro sure
Yes, I also fixed some sound bugs, so all sounds are included in the pack. I can replace all the sounds to high frequency sounds if there are no side effects!

Any way you could create a complete pack of all the wallpapers and renders you have released for this game?

  26. Michael says:

Is there a specific place to talk about the unique features of the NTSC Gamecube version of RE4 for a potential bonus mod later on down the line.

I’ve seen several discussions in the comments of various posts but didn’t know if there was a more dedicated forum where these matters are being discussed.

On another note, I think it would be cool to see a mod/alternate outfit where Leon keeps his jacket throughout the entire game instead of losing it early on.

    • Michael says:

Is there a specific place to talk about the unique features of the NTSC Gamecube version of RE4 for a potential bonus mod later on down the line?*

      • WrathFul says:

No, right now there isnt an specific forum for that, but you should comment the feature here and specify is something from the GameCube version 🙂

  27. Nick Swenson says:

    REQUEST:
For Special 2 Costumes, can we get Ada in her ‘Assignment Ada’ gear? Not sure if possible, just asking 🙂
(Also, haven’t unlocked AA yet, starting fresh, so let me know if this is already the case!)

    • albert says:

Oh, I’m afraid there’s nothing we can do with Special 2 costumes. There is no cutscene data to replace. It simply uses the regular cutscene data and loads the regular Leon costume.
You can force the game to load Mafia Leon costume using Raz0r trainer, but that’s it…

      • Nick Swenson says:

Damn, I forgot that’s how it works. PS2 pre-renedered custscenes made Special 2 integration unnecessary, huh. That’s okay.

But as long as I’m just whining about my wishlist outside the scope of this project, I sure wish we could have Mercenaries Luis and Ashley xD

Thanks for getting back to me (and all of us here) so promptly and regularly!

  28. doedsmedveten says:

Haven’t played RE4 since the release of Ultimate HD and have been waiting for this project to finish before playing it again. It’s almost hard to describe how impressive your work is and how impressed I am. Not only as a RE fan, but as a graphics enthusiast as well. It’s exactly what I wished for; Aside from mechanics I wholeheartedly think it’s like re-experiencing the game again for the first time. I keep finding myself stopping just to look and admire the visuals like when the game first released on Gamecube. Everything is not only intact, but also extremely true to the original assets in style and art direction and the composition is just fantastic. I hope this turns into an official patch at some point and that you’ll be compensated for it.

Could you possibly be able to add a mod that changes the button inputs to the playstation buttons? I think it’d be a neat idea to have multiple options for button inputs in the menu of the game. Like have an option for gamecube, xbox, ps, pc etc. Can’t wait for the patch that fixes a lot of the issues! Thanks for the hard work! I know it’s not easy.

Think you could do some reskins, color changes or costume swaps? The base costumes are good but no fun after many play throughs. Like swapping Ashleys normal for her popstar costume, that way Leons regular and Ashleys special 1 are seen at the same time

  37. Damon says:

Hello, I have been using your mod GC scheme and planning to use my GameCube controller with it via a GameCube adapter for PC and making sure to make it read as a 360 controller. I was wondering if there would be a later modification that implements the use of OG GameCube button prompts. It would be awesome to do as I wanna try playing the game like it was a released in 2005 (with a new coat of paint of your mod and resolution of course). So if you are open to reply that would be awesome I don’t wanna rush you as you are currently making a patch but some clarity on it would be nice. I hope you enjoy your day and I’m glad and respect your dedication to this mod alone. Stay safe and healthy for times to come.

¡Hola Albert! ¡Saludos!

  42. Kevin Alasco says:

    1. I’m using mouse and keyboard. Would you please add a support for it.
I tried them on RE4 UHE but it would be better if using re2 remake style.

    3. Simplified inventory and UI interface as well

  44. Clark Steel says:

  45. Pain Sherman says:

    Hello Albert!

First of all, I want to thank you and everyone involved in the HD project for the outstanding work you’ve done so far. I’ll make sure to contribute when possible.

I have three recommendations for you and the devs behinds re4_tweaks to take a look into if you don’t mind. First one being the ability to remap controller buttons to match those of modern/classic RE Titles. Second, include popular/modern button packs (PlayStation 5, Xbox One, etc.) Third, separate the camera and aiming FOV values as the latter is optimal at default value IMO. Here’s an example done in RE5: https://residentevilmodding.boards.net/thread/5760/optimal-field-view-characters-supported

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read.

    Regards,

    Pain Sherman

  46. mofail says:

Wow there’s even more re4 tweaks being made possible, good luck re4 team as always.

  47. Muffins says:

Would be possible as a bonus to restore or add in specific content from RE4?
By that I mean, how originally the silencer was compatible with the Punisher, Blacktail and Killer7, but that was cut short before.
Or filling in the blanks with weapons / items that are character exclusive.
So Leon actually loads in Ada’s shotgun model in gameplay, or the other characters being able to use all weapons. Maybe it’s beyond than just resotring RE4 at this point but, as a bonus it would feel neato.
Don’t wanna push too much since the team is busy with everything. >u<

    • albert says:

      Hello!
I’m not sure if that’s possible. If the silencer + other weapons data is completely removed of the game’s code, I guess it’s probably something really hard to achieve.
Ada’s shotgun during the main campaign was originally an unused item. When the PS2 port was created, the developers took that item’s ID and assigned it to Ada’s shotgun. But they left the outbounds items in the main campaign untouched.
Maybe nipkow and/or emoose have an answer about the feasibility of this kind of changes

I was… So clooooseeee T_T all i want is the RE2 Ada outfit to appear in cutscenes when Leon wear his Special 1 RPD outfit… And great job that you delivered it… But… So close, yet so far T_T i got denied, i tried to put the RE2 Ada EVD files into the EVD folder, replacing the old EVDs… And when i tried to load the game and get to the scene (the one where chief mendez is stomping Leon and Ada shoot the Chief’s back), the game crashed!! I’m soooo devastated. Then again… It’s my own fault that the RE4 UHD that I have… Is a pirated one *sigh* So close, yet so far… Can you guys do something about? … Or am I asking for too much?

    • albert says:

      Hello!
You don’t have to do anything, the HD project uses by default RE2 Ada’s costume when Leon wears the RPD costume.

But if you just wanted RE2 Ada costume with no HD project, I’m afraid it will crash because the new files need other HD project files

      • Arlyn_JustaNoob says:

Yeah… It certainly crashed the game, it devastated me and i kinda want it without the HD project, along with the recently Beta Ashley you’ve made/add in this list to complete with the RE3.5 Leon mod. Believe me, i would definitely play RE4 (legit version) with your hardworked HD project if i could… But all i have is a crappy potato pc that can barely run RE4 UHD (pirated version) and i only able to play it in 30 fps… I’m just a poor person.

Still, i feel like I ask for too much for you guys to make them as a mod seperate for the non-HD project/RE4 UHD and it’s certainly not a part of your priority or for the HD project… So, i’m sorry for bothering you guys.

Once again, a huge praise to the amazing HD project that you’ve done. I certain a huge praise is not enough and would do a justice… Still, it’s astounding.

        • albert says:

          Hello again
Did you try installing the re4_tweaks?
          https://github.com/nipkownix/re4_tweaks/releases
You only have to place “dinput8.dll” , “dinput8.ini” and the folder “re4_tweaks” inside the \Resident Evil 4\Bin32\ folder

Ashley’s new costume is really high-poly, and maybe it exceeds what the vanilla game can handle. re4_tweaks makes possible to surpass that limit

  49. Muffins says:

Something optional, that would be texture change but not accurate to old RE4 would be an update to Leon’s RPD costume shoulder badges.
In RE2 Remake, Capcom added an extra detail to the Officer badge where below it, the date when the RPD was founded is displayed. They also did this change to Leon’s classic costume in it.
Or hell alternatively adjusting the colors to better match original RE2, with the brighter blue and white sneakers as an optional download.

  50. Muffins says:

Oh! An interesting bonus (if possible) would be restoring the original GCN weapon balance, since starting with the PS2 port majority of the weapons had stat changes for upgrades.
While I do appreciate the changes, the original stats are kinda lost to time as unique to the first version of RE4.

  51. Salem98 says:

  52. LukeStar says:

Can you please update SMALLER AND SIMPLIFIED HUD mod to latest HD Project v1.1

  53. Fernando says:

Hello there! Great texture pack, you really made me pickup RE4 again after years, which was a game that was always special to me, so i’m deeply grateful that you’ve given it such a well designed retexture work! ^^
I just tried out the Blue RPD version (1998) from this Bonus page, and it apparently makes the base color blue as expected, but erases the shoulder pads RPD logo and buttons on the back aswell, it turns all pads and ”reinforced” parts of the outfit into a slightly green-ish color and you can only see the RPD logo shadow/silhoutte when aiming, probably the bump map remaining without the actual logo, i’m not sure if that problem is only on my end or if it’s actually broken?

    • albert says:

      Hello! thanks for the message!
That’s really strange.. I’m using the file in the download links right now and it looks ok.
Are you using the latest HD project build released this year? Or you just downloaded the Blue RPD pack?

  54. Peter Kranz says:

Hey Albert, got 2 ideas for suggestions

1: Broken butterfly with wood grip (as it shows it like that on the non hd inventory icon)
2: unrolled parchment file, you showed in one of your videos you were thinking of either making the file you find as a parchment either rolled or unrolled, could you relase the unrolled ver?

  55. Jeferes says:

Is there a possibility to import stuff from the E3/Demo version (Trial Edition) into the current version of HD Project? I played the Trial Edition months ago and there were things in that version that I liked more than the final version, like the start menu, the new HUD and the Handgun model, can you import these things into HD Project please? I’m sure I’m not the only one who liked those from the Trial Edition

    https://i.imgur.com/UbmeRBT.jpg

    • albert says:

I guess it can be ported by replacing the game data, but only if we have the demo files. Although, it would need a lot of work to remaster all that stuff. Not sure if it is worth the effort when we already can play that demo..

      • Jeferes says:

I think it is possible to extract files from the Demo if you have the ISO, the Demo can be found here:

        https://www.moddb.com/games/resident-evil-4/downloads/biohazard-4-trial-edition

the Japanese Demo is the most recommended because it is closer to the final version.

        https://i.imgur.com/u7C2fpt.jpg

I know, we can already play this demo so there’s no reason to import these things into the final version, but it would be interesting to see these things in the castle and on the island (because the demo ends after the church bell rings)

I don’t know how to say, but I feel that the demo version is more “dark” compared to the final version.

One of the things I would like from the Demo for the final version:

        – The main menu where Leon and Ashley are.
        – The HUD style.
(For me the Demo HUD is better because we don’t know that we can increase the life limit.) In the demo we didn’t find Ashley, so i don’t know if we have access to Leon’s HUD with Ashley in the files inside the ISO.
        – Handgun model.

A user named “bio4.exe” already posted a mod in 2021 that imported the Beta (Demo) ammo boxes for Ultimate HD Edition.

  56. Ashley says:

I just installed Leon’s new RPD textures for the HD Project and when i select his rpd costume the rpd logo on the front of him and his arm sleeves are not showing. I tried both the new and original rpd textures and it’s still not showing the logos. Is it suppose to be like that?

  57. Ravi says:

Thank you whole team for all the hard work as always, love the hudless mod! Appreciate that you have made this so much, can avoid burn-in fears when playing for a long time haha! Great to see the other accessibility options like anti-flicker and controls changes (also can be done in steam input options btw), there are all great options to have! Cheers 🙂

  58. Klemc says:

    Thanks, i’ll take a look at gradients…

… why not to make FlyffyModManager compatible archives ? It’s faster to switch back too !

    Mille mercis (in FRench).

  59. Ryan Powell says:

Hey, not to be nit picky, but i just installed the ps button bonus and noticed that it reverts the smaller/simplified hud back to it’s original format, but the how to remains as the ps controller. could this be adjusted as well please? i honestly like the smaller/simpler hud and i use a ps4 controller lol also thanks again for your constant work on this project. i hope that capcom will pay you what you’re owed and that they will implement these updates into another port of the game eventually. i am at constant shock of just how much wonderful and incredible work you’ve put into it. please know that me and many of us resi fans and players greatly appreciate this.

  60. Ryan Powell says:

Also I was wondering, would you be able to program weapon switching like on the d-pad instead of constantly having to go in the menu to switch them? if not, no worries, just thought i’d ask. 🙂 thanks again!! also, brilliant idea for toggling the run button. i really appreciate that. it gets some getting use to but i love it! and thank you for adding the qte skipper (that’s what i call it lol) because qtes aren’t that fun lol again i can not give you enough praise for your work. please don’t stop!

  61. Frank Nitty says:

You guys are far too kind throwing us a bone here w/ the “bonus” gifts and the PS button icons mod was the icing on the cake for me 🙂 . Kudos and much success to you and your team and all of your future endeavors.

  62. Axel says:

Can a patch be created for the Game Cube scheme that inverts the on-screen button prompts? Like in the description, it says A when you need to press X. It would be nice to have a fix for this, both in the original and ps buttons.

    • Seb says:

I second this. Also, please change “Move Selection” button prompt on the inventory from Y to B (or Triangle to Circle with the PS Button mod).

Thank you for all you do!

    • Seb says:

I second this. It would be great to change the “Move Selection” button prompt from Y to B (or Triangle to Circle with the PS Button Mod).

  63. HHH says:

Dear Albert, i said this even years ago. Please make tactical vest for professionel mode and if you can, please do it for all the game (not the just after chapter 5-1) after when we bought it. I said this even to modders but they didnt do it.
Please Albert, i thing this is easy for you or your friends; please make tactical vest for Professionel mode.

    • Mark says:

If it is just for aesthetic purposes, just use the override costumes, but if you want its damage reduction, well there is a reason the devs removed that for the pro mode. It is for the challenge so, no the vest’s damage reduction should NOT BE on the professional mode. It is meant to be hard.

      • HHH says:

I want it for aesthetic purposes and i dont like the other costumes; the tactical vest is looking good in game for Leon and for screenshot when we play Pro mode.
If Albert can make this, it will be very good for people who want this.

  64. Seb says:

For some reason, my HUD is about 1.5 inches (3.8 centimeters) to the left, instead of almost flush with the right side of the screen, after installing the simplified and smaller HUD mod. I have a 27 inch 2560×1440 monitor. The above screenshot displays the HUD almost flush to the right. I don’t have any DOF settings enabled, and i tried enabling and disabling the HUD on right and ultrawide support settings in RE4 tweaks (F1).

    • Phantron says:

it’s probably because the core.udas file from the 1.1 patch is newer / different

      • albert says:

Hello! The reason is re4_tweaks. Version 1.7.7.5 and 1.7.7.6 version cause this issue. 1.7.7.3 is ok. I’ve checked it right now
I’m talking to nipkow, and we found the incompatibility problem between re4_tweaks and the mini-HUD mod. So, he’s working on this 😀

The core.udas being different is not a problem. It’s just some text corrections I did on some item description (also included in the core.udas), and I forgot to port them to the small HUD core.udas
It’s something probably nobody will notice XD
I’ve updated the links in case you want to download the HUD mod again ;D

  65. Peter Kranza says:

Hey Albert did you see my suggestions up there? 🙁

  66. Marius Johnsen says:

Been playing the game with the Ashley otoño outfit for a little while now and in my opinion it feels like it suits Ashley allot better than her original outfit and I will definitely be keeping it installed. According to google she is 20 years old in the game and this definitely made her look allot more like a college student.

I was just wondering if you could make some alternative color variations? Maybe an orange tone similar to her original outfit and possibly a light brown jacket version to distinguish her more from Ada 🙂

    • albert says:

Yes, I agree. I guess that was the goal of this design, a college student look, but I bet someone told the designers to focus on a more… ballistic look XD
Something like this? It’s hard to get decent color schemes. I’m not image designer haha
      https://mega.nz/file/kDYznApK#_5etMmP6c7hcQN_PmQSdldbjkoa0Drd8B4GjVEPano8

      • Marius Johnsen says:

I’m a big fan of the original color of the scarf, the boots, the pants and the gloves. Personally I really wanted some extra colors for mainly the jacket 😀 The brown one looks very nice, but I would love it with the original pants etc. The other jacket I was thinking of is a lighter color closer to the scarf the green jacket Ashley is wearing. Sort of like an homage to the original outfit that Ashley wears.

  67. Phantron says:

Hello, it seems the 1.1 update has a newer core.udas in BIO4/etc than the minimal HUD mod, so can you guys do anything about that please?
    Thank you in advance 🙂

  68. Tyrant says:

Can you please make a patch that changes Ada’s normal outfit with the spy costume?

    • albert says:

You can change her outfit in separate ways using the F1 menu, in the “Misc” section

      • Tyrant says:

Sorry for not clarifying but I meant when using the normal costume for the main story is it possible to make Ada’s outfit the spy outfit

        • albert says:

          Oh!
Well, I’d needed to replace completely all the cutscenes’ files.
Every cutscene loads a file that contains all models for that specific cutscene. So, Ada’s model is a different file for every cutscene (yes… the same model is repeated dozens of times…)
And you’d need to replace all the files again if you want to restore the original costume.
So it’s not something that can be changed on the fly using re4_tweaks
The process would be the same as the new Ashley costume

  69. Ravi says:

Can we possibly get a controller scheme that swaps Square/Cross to match the classic controls of PS2 as well! It would be great! Hope it is possible 🙂

  70. Muffins says:

Would it be possible to make Round grenade models?
What I mean is uh, making the grenade models match how they look on Krauser’s body model, where they look more generic and spherical.
It always bugged me how Krauser had mismatched grenades, so it would be a fun little thing.

  71. Raid3n says:

Hi, I have a suggestion for a bonus pack. This suggestion is a bonus pack that restores the effect of blood running down the body of the first victim in the village that we found dead with a fork to the head. In HD Project standard this effect has been removed.

  72. HHH says:

Dear Albert, can you add “Smaller HUD Original Design” to “Otono Ashley” bonus mod? There ise only “Simplified Design” version in the compability patches.

  73. DatkLink1308 says:

Hi Albert, I have a question. I remember playing RE4 UHD vanilla once on Steam with an Xbox 360 controller and for some reason the buttons that appeared in the game were the Xbox One/Series controller buttons. This has only happened to me once, and even currently playing this game with an Xbox Series controller it has never happened again. Do you know if there is any way to activate the Xbox One buttons in the game?

    • DarkLink1308 says:

I think this happened after some update that the game received,

      • albert says:

This game has always had the same Xbox360 buttons since it was released on 2014. No update of the game has never changed that. And it’s been a lot of years since this game stopped receiving any updates. There are no options regarding this

  74. WAYLON OVERVIG says:

Is there a way to play the game on hard mode without playing through it once?

  75. WabbitNugget says:

¡Hola Albert!

  76. HHH says:

In the re4tweaks, there are violence options: 1. Standart 2. Censored (Japan/German versions) and 3. there is “full violence” version; what is “full violence” version and what is the difference from standard version?

  77. vaultSeven says:

  78. Ravi says:

I think the left and right face buttons may be reversed in the GC 1.1 edition, when I removed the input.ini included with the patch it reverted to normal and I noticed some of the assignments may be a little off, cheers 🙂

  79. Ravi says:

Just hoping for a PlayStation button pack that reverses Cross and Square for the original PS2 appearance in the UI 🙂

I currently usually just switch Cross/Square and L1+R1/L2+R2 in steam input, but this does not change the Square and Cross on the UI unfortunately 🙂

Love the GC icons, currently using this as it reflects the original controls so well, just hope we get an equivalent for PS pads and even Xbox one also to reflect the bottom face button as shoot/accept also!

Thanks as always for all the hard work!

  80. vaultSeven says:

  81. Lucas says:

Does anyone know why when I replace the files for the original HUD design but smaller, after a while the files overwrite themselves and put the original HUD back in large?

  84. mofail says:

Hey Albert is there any more videos coming on your yt channel regarding re4 tweaks? How’s things going? Looking forward to any new developments there are & also will there be any more fixes to do in the game away from ree4 tweaks?

    • albert says:

      Hello!
Emoose and nipkow are continuously working on further improvements, while I try to help them with some info and tests.
      https://github.com/nipkownix/re4_tweaks/issues/333

Other than that, right now I’m completely out of time because I’m studying and working at the same time. So I have no time to do YT videos these days.
But I’ll obviously update the HD project when needed. I’m still collecting feedback.
When the re4_tweaks tool reaches a certain level of perfection and it fixes certain porting bugs, I’ll need to adjust some edits I did to minimize these bugs.
Then I’ll take the opportunity to apply all the changes based on this feedback I’m collecting and we’ll get version 1.2 ;D

      • mofail says:

Wonderful ! As always good luck to your work, studies & life! I thought there maybe another update & looking forward to coding wizards can do oin the future KEEP GOING GUYS ! Will donate when there’s a update you legends

  86. RE4 Fan For Life says:

Awesome work. A very admirable project.

Thank you for staying away from nude/sex mods. Those have no place here.

And thanks for the Gamecube controller mod. Literally the first thing I thought of when considering getting RE4 for PC. 🙂

  87. iamlegir says:

Hello guys, any chance to making or port the Wii pointer as a bonus in the future updates?
I really admire your work! Thank you so much for this gift!

  88. justme says:

albert they should use your textures for the re4 remake

  89. Juan Mejia says:

Hi! Just wanna ask, are you also going to make a mod for Leon’s beta jacket? It kinda resembles his jacket in the remake and I think it will be awesome to play with in RE4UHD!

  90. Italian Stallion says:

That’s a lot of bonus goodies.
    You’re truly amazing guys.

  91. MC says:

    Hi.
I have commented this on the youtube channel videos so many times, with no response 🙁

I feel the only thing missing is a mod that allows the black bars of the gamecube original without cutting off any part of the HUD and a way to get rid of the word “LOADING” on the black load screens.

If there were some way to implement these, I believe this would become the de facto best way to play RE4.

  92. WabbitNugget says:

¡Hola Albert!

  93. BigOwl says:

hello, i loved the Playtation icon pack. 🙂
but the scheme of the buttons remains the one of the PC. :/
I know that it is possible to swap the square to the cross in the “input.ini” file, but the button that appears on the screen is different.
would it be possible to also change the button that appears on the screen?
    Saludos 🙂

    • albert says:

      Hello!
It would be needed to edit a lot of textures to achieve that, because there is not just 1 texture per button. Almost all contexts use unique button textures and/or complex images that include the button image. So it’s not that easy, I’m afraid.
I have it on my “things to do” list. So I hope i can do it eventually ;D

  94. Nitsug says:

Hi. I made a little edit of the ps buttons mod that makes it resemble the PS2 button scheme.
It’s by no means a polished work and it only covers the in-game HUD, but I think it’ll be useful until an official version comes out.

Hi. I made an edit of the PS buttons mod (and the input.ini) and did what I could to make it resemble the original PS2 layout as much as possible. It’s by no means a polished work and it only covers the in-game HUD. I think it’ll be useful for people who get too annoyed by the square prompt, at least until an official version comes out.
I’d like to leave a link but it’s not possible I think.

What would be nice is some similar images to some of the promo images and desktops…
My favorite was the one with Leon posing with this gun unaware of the big chainsaw bag head behind him ready to lower his chainsaw on him (background was basically black)

you could do some nice desktop images with the models you have in various poses.
Just an idea. I don’t have the dev tools you must have to open the models and do renders

Hey, love the project! I wanna request a cool bonus mod. You know the jet-ski part at the end? well you can do flips and barrel rolls if you have a controller or if you play on ps2/gamecube, but there’s no key binds for tricks if you’re on keyboard. Maybe a mod where (A) and (D) makes the jet-ski barrel roll in each direction mid-air, and (S) makes you backflip. Thank you for your work!

  98. Muffins says:

I don’t know if it possible, but a good similar bonus mod would be changing the reticle color when using the harpoons at the boat section.
For colorblind users, sometimes the red gets a little difficult to see and to aim accurately, be it while fighting Del Lago or fishing!
So having things like green and blue as alternatives would help.

  99. succo says:

Would you be able to make a button pack that just swaps around the Xbox icons to fit with the Gamecube layout? It’s weird having Gamecube icons while playing with an Xbox controller.

  100. Nitsug says:

Hi. Back in november I made an edit of the PS buttons mod that made it almost identical to the PS2 version.

Would you allow me to upload it to nexusmods? I’ll credit you as I should.

If you could answer today, I’ll be very grateful, nexus is gonna have some maintenance in seven hours or so.

  101. John says:

Any chance you’ve documented the edits you made to core.udas for the smaller hud mod? Did you have to edit anything besides core_27.UWF?

I’d really like to make the lifebar the same size as it was on GameCube. When they started porting RE4 in widescreen, they simply zoomed into the game’s letterboxing, which makes the hud seem huge. It’d be great to restore the original scale. Your mod is great, but slightly too small for what I want to do.

    • John says:

Nevermind, I think I figured it out. core_27 is the lifemeter, core_34 is the bullet icon, and core_36 is the PRL gauge. So many textures, this must have taken you forever to tweak lol

¡Hola Albert! Ojala me haya podido explicar bien jajaja
    ¡Saludos!

If at all possible, can you add support to uncensor the Japanese version of the game?
There is no gore or decapitations etc… and it takes the edge of a survial horror game.

  109. Muffins says:

Are there any plans for restoring up beta / early RE4 content, similarly to the Ashley Otoño outfit?
Like Leon’s 3.5 Jacket look, or how in the Trial Version of RE4 the handgun used a different model altogether.
Or how the ammo used different texture designs as well. Same with how the overall UI looked like the map screen or even the HUD.

PS: Sorry if I post a lot, been following the Project for years and I’m just passionate on RE4! >u<

      Hello!
      Don’t worry! hehe
I don’t have the time to do more extras right now.
The priority will be to adjust a few inaccuracies when I have some free time. So I can’t promise anything I’m afraid 😛

  110. Chris says:

Hi guys! I wanted to let you know about something curious I noticed: I am using the excellent Otono Outfit Mod for the Special 1 outfit. However, when this mod is installed, it changes Ashley’s eyes from Brown to Blue. Is this intended? You can see the difference at this imgur link:

    https://imgur.com/a/xs9oRV4

Thanks a lot for your time, work on this project, and the mod!

    • albert says:

Hello! It’s on purpose, the beta Ashley model I found has also blue eyes 😛
She also has different hair, but it was long hair, it was problematic, it just doesn’t work with the game’s physics and it looked awful ingame (that’s the reason there are no really long hair characters)

      • Chris says:

Ah, understood, thanks a lot Albert! I still really like the way it looks, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a bug or something haha.

  111. Chris says:

Hi Albert. It’s me again. I wanted to let you know that in the backup BIO4 files for the Special 1 Otono outfit, you seem to have left some playstation button icons in there instead of the default xbox buttons. Just a heads up thanks 🙂

  112. Rob says:

    Hey Albert,
Is there any compatibility patch for PSbuttons + Smaller but original hud?
    Thanks!

    • albert says:

Hello! Could you try taking the “core.udas” file from SMALLER-ORIGINAL DESIGN-HUD\BIO4\Etc\
And place it inside Resident Evil 4\BIO4\Etc\ folder?

      This should be enough! 🙂

  113. James says:

Maybe for the next release you could restore Ashley’s uncensored line, “Oh my God, what’s going on!?” when she gets captured by Salazar from the Gamecube demo trailer?

    Questions regarding RE4 HD Project:
    1. Does the mod applies automatically on custom maps that uses the same assets?
    2. I hope you fix the blur in every cut-scenes. I tried and some people tried as well.
    3. re4_tweaks v1.8 slow down the movements and everything. The version 1.7.7.3 runs smoothly but slow down in some areas but it runs smoothly afterwards.
    4. The override costumes doesn’t work. Do i have to finish the game for it to work or not?
    5. I hope you make custom maps from Mercenaries
    6. New optional download loading screens, main menu background
    7. Important: Remaster of all sound uses in the game even the unuse, beta or whatever hidden files.
    8. VR version assets to be include on HD Project for PC
    9. Additional keybinds for inventory (moving and rotating items)
    10. AI tweaks to be aggressive movement speed and attack speed, disable rain
    11. DODI Repacks already manage the easy installer. Use it as your own torrent for easy installer. To prove that DODI Repacks did better at managing installer, I downloaded it myself, install easy and straight out play the game without any crash or steam error. In fact, the HD Project v1.1 is working on pirated/cracked version.
    12. Smaller subtitles, text and GUI (the one that you see on main menu)
    13. Important: The chapter movie browser of the main game, separate ways and Ada’s Report can also be done by compiling all cutscenes from in-game and put them together.
    14. More guns from Ubisoft and Gamecube version.
    15. Weapon bug: Silencer from handgun cannot buy again after you sell it to the Merchant.
    16. Tactical vest can equip and unequip in-game

  115. Vykhodzev says:

Hey Albert, wanted to know something different from you.
Are you going to upload a playthrough of you playing the new remake?
I loved the playthrough series you did with the HD project and I’m sure I can’t be the only one who wants to see your takes, opinions and reactions to the RE4 remake as well.
I would totally watch all of it. 😀

  116. KrossH says:

  117. Vita says:

Hi Albert, I just tried the Smaller Original Design HUD files on the non HD Project and it works, But when I tried The Ada RE2 outfit bonus, it didn’t work, instead it was force closed. Can you fix it so that it can be played in the original version without install HD project? (My game version is 1.0.6) Thank You

  118. Shantasma says:

    Hello Albert & friends,

I recently played through this game with your mods again, this time with Ashley’s “Autumn” attire, among other bonuses. I can’t thank you enough for all you do to make the original RE4 as accessible and playable as possible for all future and current fans, especially as the remake’s release quickly approaches. I just wanted to leave a couple of suggestions for future bonus packages, assuming y’all are still interested in adding to it.

I think an optional version of Ashley’s beta “Autumn” outfit in which her eyes remain brown would be an appreciated option. I adore the design, but it’s almost uncanny at times seeing Ashley with blue eyes.

Additionally, I was curious if you were interested in going all out for button prompt options? I think it would be great to have a Nintendo Switch button pack, (with the A/B confirm/cancel layout) and perhaps even PS5/Xbox Series textures for those utilizing modern controllers. (Although since RE4 doesn’t have native ports on those platforms yet, I assume the textures would be made from scratch, so I understand if it’s a big ask for an ultimately minor value add.)

Lastly, in the vein of your Gamecube layout bonus pack, would it be possible to implement a version that mimics RE4 Remake’s button layout? The differences are minor, but coming hot off the recent demo for RE4R, it was easy to misclick triangle with the intent of opening the inventory screen. So a matching layout would be triangle for inventory, select for map, start for pause, Square for reload, Circle for run, and X for confirm. I think something like this would be a great option for any new fans coming off the Remake to play this version.

Lastly, while it isn’t exactly your department to make fully custom model swaps, I think a bonus costume pack that gives the cast (or simply Leon/Ashley/Ada) their Remake designs would be really interesting! Naturally this is a huge ask of you guys, but I figure it doesn’t hurt to spitball 🙂

Thank you again for all that you do! Best wishes.

Does anyone know how to use the GAMECUBE CONTROLLER BUTTON PACK + BUTTON REMAP bonus? I installed it, but I can’t seem to get my Game Cube controller to read properly. I couldn’t get it to read any inputs from my Game Cube controller at first, so I decided to use vjoy. Now it reads some inputs but it’s not playable. And the graphic for the action icon is a “5” instead of “A”. Anybody have any idea where I have gone wrong? I’ve been beating my head against a wall trying to figure out where I’m going wrong. If anybody has any tips I would greatly appreciate it.

  122. Steve says:

Does the GC button mod enable rumble on a GC controller? Using it as a generic controller on Steam works for inputs but there is no rumble

  123. ViperAcidZX says:

Is there any possibility of the GameCube control scheme’s input.ini file could be expanded to a full Xbox 360 prompts with GameCube-styled controls to have properly matching controller prompts for QTEs and in the menus with this alternate control scheme like in the dedicated GameCube Controller Pack + Buttons Remap mod for HD Project in future updates? Furthermore, is there any possibility for Switch and Xbox One Controller Packs for HD Project as well as GameCube-styled controllers for potential Switch Controller Pack, and possibly other controller button packs as well (e.g. PlayStation 2, original Xbox)? There’s also something wrong with the original Xbox 360 Buttons Backup files as they only contain the files for the HD textures and none for the Original textures when enabled, so if I where to install an alternate controller icons pack (e.g. NEGAARMAX’s Switch Pro Buttons) and later decide to download the Xbox 360 Buttons Backup files for HD Project, it only undoes the HD texture’s version of the mod and not the original GameCube textures. Another thing I forgot to add in my earlier posts is the LB and RB button prompts in the How to Play manual files are facing the same direction when they should be in opposite directions from each other to match the design of the actual controller.

  125. Anthony says:

Have you at all considered making the GameCube button icons more accurate to the original game? For example I noticed with the A+B QTE prompt in the original game the A and B buttons are accurately sized to what they are on the controller.

Great mod, been having a lot of fun with it, but i wanted to know if you could do a bonus using leon’s fingerless gloves for the special 2 suit, they show up during the cutscenes but then they revert back to full gloves, hope it’s not a big deal, and thank you again for the mod!

  127. Bundy says:

Hello, I’m using the Gamecube-Controller “button pack + button remap”-addon with an OG GameCube controller + Hyperkin 4 Port Adapter. I’ve already revamped my inputs in the “Hyperkin 4 Port”-option in the options menu, because the game registered the A-Button as “cancle” and the B-Button as “accept” as well as some other mix ups with the buttons (for example the Z-Button as “aim weapon”). Sadly, refigurating the controlls in the option menu doesn’t have any affect on the controls in-game or in the game menu. They are still messed up. Any advice?
